Anyone watching Doom Patrol? I just finished seasons 1, Alan Tudyk is fantastic in it.

Glad you like it. I watched the 1st season and found it to be insufferably terrible and boring. One of the worst things I've ever seen. I gave up after that. With that said, I know there is a certain audience out there that loves the show. Good on you guys.

Just finished Titans S3, and similar to the other seasons, I just found it to be alright with a fair amount of disappointment. I still actually like the 1st season the best and has what I consider the best writing, even though it too was FAR from perfect. Like S2, S3 has times where I'm digging what is going on with equally as many times I find the writing to be just downright terrible and nonsensical. It's too bad, as I really like the cast, some of the visuals, and many other things about the series. The potential has been there to be good, but it just always seems to come up short. Being on HBOMax now, the expectations should be high. I will say this though, in a DC TV world where I'm giving up on series left and right, something about this show is intriguing enough for me to at least keep watching. As of now, I'll likely still tune in for S4 even though my faith is low it will be very good.

The essence of the characters is completely subjective. Batman wasn't that hard bitten for decades. Frank Miller gave us the real Dark Knight. Orphans have been the setup of fantasy stories forever. I'm sorry but the Vietnam War is =/ to super hero stories.

Batman started hard bitten and didn't originally have his code. He used guns and even killed the criminals he fought. The creation Comics Code Authority is where a lot of the softening of Batman and other characters began. Publishers were kinda forced to comply with their rules so distributors would actually carry their books. So again, dollars were trumping story.

That said, it's bad for business IMO if too many of your movies are hard R. My kids were excited about Suicide Squad movie, I they liked the first one. Then I found out what happened in the new one - no way they are watching it. No way my kids are watching Batman. And if they don't watch it, I'll be honest no way am I going to a theater to watch it by myself.

It's literally called the Suicide Squad. They have bombs in their head that will be used if they do not comply. Wanton destruction is their MO. No amount of cutesying up of the characters is going to make that OK for children. Now we may have different standards of what age a child is ok to see these things, but that does not change who and what those characters are about.

I actually really liked S1 and thought S2 was decent. This season was definitely a step down. Like you said casting is good and the tone and feel of the show feels like a DC comic. Visually it's pretty good as well. But the writing isn't the best and that's true especially this season. A little all over the place and some of the decisions don't make sense.

It's also frustrating when I'm watching a show called Titans, yet we've had 3 seasons now where you'd swear the writers are trying their hardest to avoid them actually being all together as you know.... a team. I mean isn't that why we watched the show? As much as I love seeing them operate in pairs for 35 hours now and for no apparent reason, I just really don't.

Yeah it gets a little annoying sometimes how they seem to intentionally keep them separate. S3 was especially bad. Also the whole premise of S3 was just a little unbelievable at times. Like I can suspend my disbelief for superhero stuff but some of this season just didn't make sense.

The separation effect has been noticeable in several shows over the last year. Some of that is due to production changes because of Covid-19.

Just about two thirds through WW84. LOL. This is terrible. Plot, script, acting, special effects, you name it. Warner is really blowing this superhero movie thing. That said, Kristen Wiig is low-key hot.

Agreed. The fact that movie is directed by the same person as the first one still doesn't compute in my mind. I don't get it.

I thought the first WW did a decent job of showing respect for the character. They shot through that with this one pretty thoroughly. Wow.

The first Wonder Woman is one of my all-time favorite superhero movies and the second one is one of the worst. It's a Spider-man 2 to 3 type drop.

I'd be curious to know how you'd rank the DCEU movies so far against each other, and individually on a scale of 1 to 10. I like Man of Steel and Wonder Woman and would put them at about a 7.5. The original Suicide Squad was fun, a 7. Batman vs Superman I think I liked better than most people, at 6.5. Everything else I've seen has been dreck undeserving of even a 5/10. I haven't seen Joker, Birds of Prey, or the new Suicide Squad yet.

  1. Man of Steel 9/10
  2. Wonder Woman 9/10
  3. Zack Snyder's Justice League 9/10
  4. Shazam 7.5/10
  5. Aquaman 7/10
  6. The Suicide Squad 7/10
  7. Justice League 6.5/10
  8. Birds of Prey 5.5/10
  9. Batman vs Superman 4.5/10
  10. Suicide Squad 4/10
  11. Wonder Woman 1984 3.5/10
Joker isn't DCEU, so I don't have it on the list. Joker was just alright for me. It was a decent enough movie, but not the type of movie I was wanting or that interested in. As you can see from my list, the DCEU is a super mixed bag for me. It has some of the best comic book movies of all time, it has a few pretty good ones, and some really bad ones.

I've also found I don't really fit well within DC fandom, which has segregated out into the pro-Snyder crowd and anti-Snyder crowd. I fit in neither. While the guy has given me two of my all-time favorite comic book movies and love him for them, Batman vs Superman is still one of my all-time biggest disappointments in a movie no matter how many times I watch it. Trust me, I've tried. Also, while I love his Justice League movie and glad it was made, the fact that he somehow thought WB would accept that 4-hour monstrosity was also a major fail on his part as a filmmaker. Sure, there is easily 20 minutes you could have cut out of that thing and still kept its quality, but not much past that. Most casual fans are not willing to sit through a 3 1/2 hr movie and the box office would have showed it, especially after over half the general audience didn't like Snyder's overly-long Batman vs Superman. WB had a right to be angry to some extent. In the end, he was hired to make a movie, not a mini-series. We were just lucky in the end that HBO Max was the perfect platform to release something like that.

Not exactly part of the normal DC universe...but somehow it took me this long to watch the Watchmen series. What a mistake to not watch it immediately.

WOW

IMHO not only the best comic book world based series but maybe just one of the best series or mini series ever.

- The subject matter and content is not for all. If you don't like the first ten minutes or it upsets you just turn it off and forget about it. It is political, but even handed politically in a way where you can see some satire in all directions, much like the original graphic novel.
- You will enjoy it 100x more if you've watched the original film (underrated adaptation) or better yet, read the graphic novel. It's required to fully enjoy the series and not be confused.
- I don't think I've ever read or watched something that expands upon and maybe even IMPROVES a previous work of genius. I mean I love the source material and this just explodes from it with awesomeness in every way.
- The musical score is INCREDIBLE, I mean I'd put it in top 3 of all time against FILMS, not just series.
- The cinematography is ridiculously detailed and creative.
- The Veidt storyline is a little drawn out and cumbersome at times but worth it in the end.
- I have no idea what original creator Moore thinks of this, I wouldn't blame him for feeling angry like he has about spinoff comics...but in this case he would just be wrong to think they didn't create something wonderful from his world.
- I'd also call this one of the best works of pure sci-fi ever created in many ways. The subtle sci-fi bits really hit you in unexpected ways, it's almost background scenery and a game to spot it.

M-I-N-D B-L-O-W-I-N-G

The Boys is probably the only thing remotely comparable...but that's not a surprised since The Boys is obviously inspired by Watchmen. There are a handful of humorous moments but this Watchmen series wasn't going for comedy.

A little disappointed there won't be any more but it might be better this way.

Glad you watched it. Loved that miniseries and hoping another season is forthcoming.

Sounds like a 2nd spinoff series of The Batman is in the works - this series will be based around The Penguin and will star Colin Farrell, who plays the character in the upcoming movie. The series will be on HBO Max

I'm all for these HBO Max spinoffs as long as they have Batman in them. Call me a bit jaded, but after spending years and years watching the Gotham series on Fox consisting of a Gotham with all the villains and no Batman, I really have no interest in seeing that again, even if it is done at a higher quality level.
