Or northeast Iowa.
I haven't spent much time in NE Iowa. I guess I figured up there you run in to more Wisconsin and Minnesotan accents. Do they have that kind of sh!tty half southern accent that's so prominent in Southern Iowa too?

Filling air time every weekday for a couple hours year round in a market dominated by college football and basketball has to be pretty difficult. Living on the East side of the state, Fanatics blows away any local programming over here. Not even close in my opinion.
What about those two yahoos in the Iowa City area that go through the police blotter on the air? When traveling through I like listening to them. Are they still on? That’s better radio than Heather pretending be so smart and making fun of the human fathead Shawn. Definitely better than Murph and Andy. And certainly better than beer or whiskey talk

There is a lot of that show that seems staged- the whole "CW is so stupid" schtick, the Crazy Morning Zoo approach, the sophomoric sexual innuendo, it all gets tiresome. They're their best when they just play things straight up.
I never listen unless it's in the heart of a sucessful ISU sports season. I HATE schtick sports talk radio.

Odd deal. All of my relatives who live out west - Arizona, Seattle, etc. - tell me I have a southern accent. A twang, if you will. But my relatives who live in the south - who have REAL southern accents - don't notice a thing. Where you live probably has a lot to do with what you hear.

I asked my sister in law....from Mississippi what Yall actually meant....her response:
You All....so I asked her why don't you just say You All instead of Yall and she said...People down south don't talk like that, that's why.

I have noticed though since moving to Iowa, the longer she is here the less of a southern accent she has, She called her hubby from the grocery store and asked if she was going to be able to get home in this snow storm. My brother in law said YES DEAR....Those are only Snow Flurries NOT a snow storm!

NE Iowa has a very thick Minnesota/Wisconsin hybrid accent with this weird tick where “U” turns to “O”.

In NE Iowa, someone might tell you to “fock off” if they don’t like you.

My cousin from New Orleans explained y'all to me once. It can be directed to one person, a few people, or you can add "all y'all" and refer to a whole "mess" of folks.

When you add hand signals it can serve as its own complete sentence. "Y'all" with a wave toward ones self can mean, "Hey everyone dinner is ready and it is time to come inside." That is what we say in Iowa. In the south one word says the same thing.

More of a Sconnie twist (people say Wiscansin here), but very close.

I also know a couple people who talk like Derek up here. It’s more of a hick accent than Southern.

That said, I hate buddies at ISU from the Red Oak area and always thought they had a slight Southern accent.

So, trending more toward Bill Swerski's Superfans?

'Nother interesting segment from Derek today

I cringe and have started to turn it off when he is on the show. Not my favorite part of the radio. Maybe I am in the minority and that is okay but I prefer all of their other content significantly more.

Where they love the governor
Southern accent says:
Y'all gah sweet Thai?

The pronounce tea like country Thailand which I have never heard anywhere in the midwest.

I live in Alabama and have never heard tea pronounced in that way.

Also, they don't ask for sweet tea. If you don't want sweet, you need to specify. Sweet is assumed.

He’s started to call in to Murph and Andy pretty regularly now too. I think he probably feels emboldened by the response he gets from CW and Ross. M&A try to keep it short though, you can tell.

I used to think he called into Fanatics because he was off work by that point. Now I'm not sure how he spends his days.

Thank you.

The one thing I have learned in six years of doing this daily - now for three hours a day - is that you will never do three hours that will please EVERYBODY. Sprinkle in a bunch of topics. Go with what is working and feels good. Hope that most people can find something they like in your show. But again, we are never going to please everybody all of the time. I used to have a hard time accepting that. Now, I am pretty proud of the type of program we put together every day. Ross and I have developed great chemistry and that has to be the soul of the show with everything else built around it.
I agree with everything you said. Just wish you personally would bash the hawkeyes more. As embarrassing as they are with all of their PR blunders, I feel they get let off the hook too much. Make Ross have to defend their sorry behavior. Now that would be entertainment.
