Huge news. Tonight showed how critical his game is as one of our only knockdown 3 point shooters. We don't win that game without him playing the way he did.
In my opinion, he is as key as any player on the team. Without him I think this great season is simply a pretty good one, and we are something like 10-8 in conference. You could say the same for several guys, we’ve got a tight rotation and everyone is critical.

He's fourth on the team in minutes after Momcilovic, Gilbert, and Lipsey (who remember missed a game and would otherwise be leading by a mile). I imagine he's a lock for B12 Sixth Man of the Year.
Lipsey probably wouldn't be leading by a mile. Milan and Tamin are a virtual deadheat on minutes per game. Both at 30.8 mpg and the missed game doesn't factor into the average.

But the real point here remains. ISU really has a 6th starter situation. Not technically a starter but ISU has 6 guys averaging over 22 minutes a game (all playing in virtually every game) and the non starter of the group is 4th in minutes.

Awesome that we've been able to keep a cap on the minutes per game for our guys. Critical with the balls to the wall style of play and effort that they have to give night in and night out, and quality depth is critical to being able to do that.

I was just bumming super hard, thinking about him being a senior, when this news came out last night.

Curtis Jones Conference Games Stats

Pt. 10.6
Rb. 3.0
As. 2.0
St. 1.5 (16th)
TO 0.8
2% .491
3% .337
3p 1.8 /g (18th)
FT .813 (would be thirteenth in league if he qualified)
a/to 2.6 (would be third in league if he qualified)

I would think this along with his defense should put him in the conversation for 6th man of the year.

This. He went from *not unplayable* but close to not playable to now I want him on the floor in any clutch moment and prefer him as option 1 or 2 if we absolutely need a bucket. What a story and so happy for him. Just incredible how this staff structured this roster where every piece just seems to fit its role.

Curtis Jones has been our best player in conference only games per PRPG! and BPM.

CuJo is the 12th best player in the Big 12 measuring conference play only per BPM.

Doing this deep dive also made me realize how good Dylan Disu has been for Texas. Leads the Big 12 in BPM for conference play only, 9th in PRPG!

Curtis Jones reminds me so much of Monte Morris. What I mean by that is they both seem to always be under control and make the right play. I never yell at my TV at CJ for a dumb play like I do Tamin or Gilbert or the Bigs. He may not be flashy, but he is so solid.
This is so true. I feel I've shaken my head at dumb forced plays with Tamin, Gilbert, BRE, Pav... But CJ is sooo under control and level headed that he just makes smart decisions. I probably love his and Kings game the most because he seems to be the most underappreciated. Gilbert and Tamin have takeover capabilities, but at times they try to do too much. Where CJ just seems to be a smooth operator and always seems to hit big shots when we need them the most. The fact that he comes off the bench and does what he does, such a key player. Psyched about him coming back. Our backcourt is so strong and set for next year. It's nice not having to formulate a roster. We'll just need that big man to step in.

Uh...I think those are just his season total stats.

He gets starter minutes and has been closing out games for most of the conference season now. Since the TCU away game he's been a staple for us in the 2nd half. If he transfers out, it's not for more playing time.

I like to keep in mind that literally all of these guys think they're going to the NBA. I don't mean that in a disparaging way to anyone, it's just the mindset.

I would guess Curtis did the senior-night festivities on the off chance that he gets enough pro interest to declare. I don't know why you'd do the senior-night thing at Iowa State if your plan is to bag-hunt next year.
