“Was he keeping us on the hook to protect the spot in case he didn't like Cal? If so, he deserves some criticism, regardless of age.”

This implies differently. If he is waiting for Cal and wants to “keep us on the hook” then so be it. He owes us nothing.

We also owe him nothing.

Yes. There was another recruit who we didn’t offer who since committed to a B1G school. We would have offered and probably would have gotten him.

Good luck to him. Hopefully the staff can identify another good RB for this class; given their track record, I'm sure they will.

Then you are okay with us pulling a scholarship if a kid commits but we find a better option.

You're conflating being owed something with being exempt from criticism. What he wants to do is his choice as is ours to criticize or not criticize the choice.

That's on us then. If the kid isn't wanting to announce he's not committed.

Maybe. We don't know what he said or how emphatic he was about it. Even when they announce publicly, there is no guarantee they'll make it to NLI day. At some point, you have to take them at their word. And even if that ultimately falls on us, it doesn't exempt the kid from criticism.

If you believe the sources here about what transpired, he committed to us but stated he still wanted to take his remaining visits. Assuming that is true, unless he magically does another 180 and commits to us again, (this time publicly) he didn't keep his word.
I don’t believe the sources heard him say anything.

That's why it's on our staff if in fact they really wanted the kid that committed to "a BiG school" but held off because this kid said he's committed but not announcing.

He told the coaches he was going to be a Cyclone for sure but still wanted to take his visits and was going to announce in July

That’s not a commitment.

And what is a “verbal commitment” anyway? It’s nothing…. until they sign. Our staff shouldn’t have been counting on anything.

As for Kaleb, I don’t personally believe that Cal is a wise decision for football purposes……. but I will never blame a kid for going wherever it feels best for them.

I do wonder if he was just blown away by everything Cal has going for it….. that would be very easy to see happen.

I don't disagree but he told the coaches he was going to Iowa State for sure when he left. I'm not sure they were counting on anything they've still been recruiting Townsend

That's certainly your prerogative. From there, all that's left is to guess where the truth lies. Considering that it appears from the outside we weren't making a major push for another back along with the fickle nature of 17 year old kids, I know what my guess is.

Who was the basketball player that ditched us for Cal? That one was about 10x worse than this one though. Kaleb technically wasn’t even committed.

Is it possible he told Iowa State he was going to commit while on his visit, then told Cal he was going to commit on his visit, and his recruitment is still up in the air?
