The conference is loaded with great teams and coaches now, but the venues back then were an absolute gauntlet.

The Phog, obviously plus great teams

GIA is a shell of its former self these days, but it used to consistently be ranked among the 10-20 toughest places in the country before they expanded and the Thunder took a bunch of their fans, plus good/great teams.

Mizzou with the Antlers (racist bastards) was a terrible place to try to win, plus good/great teams

OU used to actually draw fans (see above, OKC Thunder) plus good/great teams.

KState- Solid fan base and some pretty salty teams along the way, especially while Lon Kruger was there.

Colorado..freaking altitude

Nebraska...sucked most of the time. Actually Danny Nee had some decent teams but their FB fans became Kansas fans in the winter.

I sincerely miss those days. The Big 8 was a helluva bball conference. The rivalries were so organic and some of the coaching personalities took on a life of their own. Plus guys stuck around. Manning, Grayer, Sundvold, Chevious, Richmond, King etc and the list goes on, stuck around for 4 years so you really grew attached to/developed a deep seated hatred for them.

It was just a simpler, but probably better time.
