Did he really say they are going to take Sunday and Monday off, come back on Tuesday, then take Weds off, and then work on KSU on Thurs and Friday?

I can see taking one day off, at the most 2.... but 3 seems like quite a bit.

He must feel like they need to get their legs back or something?
Yeah, it looks like this team is in need of a break from games and I can’t think of a better time to get a week off. Except maybe before that TCU game. Everybody looked a step slow on defense, especially THT. He was getting beat off the dribble and having trouble staying in front of his guy. I also like to think Shayok needs a small break to get his legs back. And the entire team, save maybe MJ and Lard, needs a complete reset.

I think we all saw the team dwindling in the Texas and OU games. It just now caught up to us. Lets hope this week off is exactly what the teams needs to finish the second half of conference play strong.

I can’t expect you to understand this, but I’m going to try.

These guys have been going at it hard since October. There is a wall that is hit by every team. This is a long stretch for the guys to get some rest, get over any nagging injuries or illnesses and decompress a little.

They will still be in Sukup every day. They will still watch film of good and bad. They will still do individual workouts, and continue to work on basketball.

They just won’t have organized practice from 1-4, or whatever.

Let's not pretend like this effort was acceptable from this team, however. Today was embarrassing. Season still can end great, but today we were, to quote Coach Prohm "not very good."

Can you please link a post saying the effort was acceptable today? I never saw one, so I’m wondering if I missed it.

Hopefully time off will somehow teach them to play defense and rebound especially when things are going bad on offense

He's pointing out that there's no reason to dress this up or defend anyone involved in this garbage effort. That shouldn't be a problem to anybody.

Again, I’ve seen no one say this was an acceptable effort. I would think that would be pretty self evident. It was a response to another ridiculous clonedude emotional outburst.

The strident manner in which the response came implies that people seem to be ok with how we played today. Wanting to see who said it.

Let them take some time off. It's all about how they finish and play going into the tourney at this point.

Refreshing their minds and bodies may help them down the stretch.

It's a typical bye week schedule. The guys will still come in a shoot, but the coaches always use the by week to get out and recruit.

You guys jump on and make a big deal out of every little thing.[/QUOTE

After the OU game last Monday Prohm made similar comments about taking a couple of days off and then coming back on Thursday to work on TCU. I guess we saw how that worked out.

Anyone criticizing Prohm of this break and reset hasn’t played or been around any kind of high-level organized sports themselves. The season is an absolute grind, mentally and physically and you’d be insane to handle this any differently than Prohm is.

Yeah sometimes some time away from something helps to get back to it.

Meh, my bar for embarrassment is much higher than that, and I’m quite certain that these players are competitors, and theirs is much higher as well. Not that any of them are happy about today.

I would argue because they are competitors they should be embarrassed at that result. I'm sure none of them are happy with it.

But that's the point. If the effort wasn't there, that's reason enough to be embarrassed. Hopefully it's a lesson learned and they come out for blood next week.

Reading through more of this thread, do you guys think it was just fatigue today? Is it a wall? or was it lack of focus? Maybe the week to recoup is what is best.

May be a wall. Team may have overachieved or they've been had on where they're vulnerable and there's not much of an answer. The defense today was a step behind from most angles from what I could tell and boxing out was really bad but it has been all season.

I think even if this team were to actually win the conference, watching some of these other teams around the country, I'm not sure ISU has much of a ceiling beyond a win or two in the NCAA tournament. That's not a bad thing, but they're not just some juggernaut.

Considering the unknowns at the beginning of the year, no one can be disappointed with the season overall, but man this loss really sucks. Maybe staying under the radar will be good for these guys, but seeing the prize and getting knocked back a peg is really frustrating.

Even if we finish the rest of conference play at 4-3 or 5-2, we're still in line for a decent seed and hopefully a very fun March. Maybe next year we'll be healthy too. :)

You guys are now coming up with BS excuses like fatigue for the loss. TCU is a hell of a lot more depleted than we are and I didn’t see fatigue problems from them.

Bottom line is we’ve been exposed the last few games and the playbook for beating us (or at least marginalizing our play) is now known.

I don’t think a few days off will make any difference.

Idk if it was a lack of will and effort or tired legs, but we were a step slow today, outside of Cam and MJ.

They're a top 25ish team and will have ups and downs...today was just weird though.

That is weird how ISU has that kind of a thing with just screwing it up when it's 'there'. I remember the 14-15 group had things rolling to start conference play then went back into dysfunction at Tech. That was who they were.

I said this morning during breakfast with my brother at the cafe that this felt like one we could lose. Sucks because of the ramifications but our best basketball is still ahead of us.
