Can anyone recommend a good carpet cleaner in the Des Moines area? My carpets are grubby and I also have some really stinky spots in the finished basement where the cats seem to have peed on the floor.

Full disclosure - owner is a good friend of mine. I think he does a super job and I may even be able to get you a cyclone fan discount :D

I recommend Zerorez. I used them a few years ago, but I don't have any pets and their smells etc. to remove. Reasonable, and not crunchy carpet like some other cleaners.

The carpet cleaner or their process doesn't make your carpet crunchy. All commercial cleaners just use hot water extraction which is simply cycling hot water through your carpet very quickly. They may use a spot cleaner on some serious stains, but the majority of your carpet is only touched by water. It's whatever combination of the carpet fiber itself and what someone has spilled or tracked on it that could result in a "crunch" feel once the cleaning is completed and everything dries.

I will 3rd "Clean Sweep" recommendation. I have a rental town-home and have tried several different companies over the years. They've clearly done the best job for me and they are all I use now. Worst: Stanley Steamer. Maybe I just got a bad crew the one time I used them but is was really poor quality clean.

crap. I see the original question was over a year old. Hope by now OP has taken some action and isn't still contemplating options.
