Caravan out to Berkeley

Hmm, so this is my first post but I'm in dire need of some assistance here. Myself and a friend are wanting to drive out to Berkeley for the Sweet 16 and (of course) Elite 8 games. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a license right now, so we can only go if we get a third person who can drive. We'd be leaving Ames tomorrow afternoon and would plan to stay in Berkeley (we've arranged accomodations) until the Cyclones lose, or the Elite 8 game is over, whichever happens first.

All I ask is that you A) Drive, B) Pitch in for gas. We're both in our early 20s and Iowa State students. I'm providing the car (a honda accord), and will plan to leave tomorrow if I can get someone. I have room for 2 more people, 3 if one person is small and doesn't mind riding center seat in a 2 door car for 24 hours.

If you're interested, you can call or text me at 972-742-2177 or email me at [email protected].

Yep, found a house to stay in, father of a friend of mine that works in admissions. Also, gas will probably be $50-60 each.

Thats one hell of a drive.

It isn't that bad. Just take 80 the whole way, you'll drive right into Berkeley. You might run into some problems getting over the Sierras this time of year, but there are ways around that.

I've made the drive from Sacramento to N. Carolina 4 times, and driven to Sacramento from here 3 times.

Ive done drives like that too... i spent a summer driving 300-500 miles a night, after being up most of the day, and also roadtripped down to the ISU-UT game back in 06.

Youre still looking at about 1800 miles, which even if you avg 70mph is a 25hr straight shot, a heck of a long time to spend in a 2 door car, lol.

I'd hate to be the person sitting in the center of the backseat (if you take 5 people).
But anways, have a fun/safe trip! Cheer Loud!

One of those drives to NC took place in 2003 in Dodge Intrepid with no AC...in July. That particular trip involved a 17 hour jaunt from Salt Lake to Des Moines. I don't think I could do that again if I wanted to.

I would really like to go, but if I had a little more time to prepare I probably would have said yes.

I've been to Canada for fishing trips twice, and it took 22 hours just to get there. The first year we had all of us packed in a pickup with a topper on the back with a mattress in the bed. At least we could lay down and try to sleep. The 2nd year I rode in a crew cab pickup. It's pretty tough to handle long drives like that. I can't imagine riding 25 hours straight in a Honda Accord. Godspeed. Cheer loud!

*Sigh* The trip isn't happening after all. Thanks Longhorn for your interest. I guess I'll just be watching the game from Welch Ave Station and waiting until I'm a 'workin man' before I make trips cross country for ballgames.

Heh, I recommend road trips while you're in college too. Driven down to Lubbock and Austin for football games... though Berkley makes those look like a hop to Manhattan almost

Sorry to hear it isn't working out for you

I have now been to 9 of the 12 Big XII stadiums, and will add atleast one to that this coming season

8 of those were done my last 2 years of school, and we went out to Toledo as well (Made it to all 12 games that season  Too bad we lost every road game )

For every one we would leave Friday after class, usually drive through the night, depending how far the drive was we usually got into town with juuuust enough time to go to the grocery store, get food, set up and cook burgers while "getting dressed"

For Austin and Lubbock we stayed in hotels over night before leaving early in the morning to get back into Ames late,

For OU we drove straight back, only because I needed to be back to leave on another trip, and that was the dumbest ******* thing I've ever done (ok maybe not ever, but it was pretty ******* stupid.)

For KSU (and Missouri? or Nebby...) we left after the game and made it back to Ames before last call. Worked out especially well one weekend when it was Day Light Savings time fall back... got an extra hour at the bar

Also went up to Minneapolis for Womens NCAA tourney, left in the afternoon got back late at night

Oh and of course, basketball games at IC with CA
