It's crazy how fast those things go down. That whole event was only 4 minutes.

Yeah. Now I feel like a **** for not being happy the Alert system wasn't used quick enough.

But then again, I shouldn't be getting an alert email in my spam folder and a Dave Chappele email in my inbox.

Video: Police release dashcam footage from car chase | Ames Tribune

after watching these i think deadly force was justified. that's probably why it only took a few days for the county attorney to determine that.
First comment from that link:

I just watched both dashcam videos and I am now more convinced than ever before that lethal force against Tyler Comstock was unjustified. It looks like cold-blooded murder to me.

Wtf video were they watching?

That was definitely surreal. And very lucky so few people were around.

Thats what just seems so weird to me. I feel like there's ALWAYS people walking around from 8-5.

That being said, another factor to be thankful of: It was cold out. Had it been 65+ degrees outside, I'm positive central campus would've had a lot of students out studying instead of in the library.

Sitting. Listening to music. So thankful that this didn't happen between classes or over lunch.

Just saw on facebook some ******* saying he thinks Iowa State needs to start a riot against it's police officers because they're against us. Then posted a link saying this chase never would've happened if the police just let him go.

Some people deserve to be punched in the throat and urinated on. But, my morals won't let me.

It's amazing nobody else was hurt, and I can understand how it's considered a justified shooting. It was weird seeing the kid slow down for people on Morrill after how wreckless he'd driven up to that point. I don't think I would have been as quick to discharge my weapon in that same situation when I was working, but can see why the officer chose to do so.

He shot the gap at Lincoln Way and Beach better than Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum escaping the mothership in Independence Day.

HA! He doesn't slow down for anyone at any point. He throws his load at pedestrians, and almost runs one over when he hits the second car.

If you would have hesitated, like you say, the chase would have gone on longer, more people would have been in danger, and someone named TXCyclones would be on an internet forum wondering why the heck the police didn't stop it when they had a chance.

I was 99% sure innocent lives were in danger based off the initial report and he needed to be stopped any way possible, the video confirmed 100%.

He slowed down outside Carver or he'da mowed down the person who looks like they're on the phone walking across Morrill between Carver/Campanile. The officers closed a lot of ground there and he had every opportunity to mow down that pedestrian and didn't.

I don't think he's saying what the police did was wrong, he's just saying what he probably would have done in that situation. I see where he's coming from here.

The only thing I would have liked to see (I believe the shooting was justified) was the officer give demands. I don't blame him for shooting quickly, as he probably felt his life and others were in danger (and rightly so) but who knows what would've happened had he given demands - the kid stops and obeys the demands, or he somehow escapes, drives off, and runs over people.

Thats what I take from the hesitation part.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it had chnged in the last couple years. I had a bunch of friends on the DPS force. Always seemed weird that they didn't carry to me.

I remember it being a hot button issue when I was in school and I thought they were carrying when I worked for them. This would have been 99-05.

at like 2:54 of the Ames cop video you see him very briefly tap the brakes for a student running across the street. Overall though, he doesn't really seem to give much consideration to the safety of those around him.

Once that kid hit the grass I don't even think "backing off" would have slowed him down and kept him from endangering others. He seemed to be in a fit of rage and needed to be stopped.
