Canceled Tesla Order

So apparently some random guy who had ordered a Tesla (but not received it yet) called out Elon Musk on Twitter about a "poorly orchestrated launch event" for the Model X. So Musk personally canceled the guy's order, and may have perma-banned the guy from ever buying one.

As always, don't call people out on Twitter unless you are prepared to handle the consequences. If you want to act like a child, be prepared for the other guy to do the same.

Musk showed up over an hour and a half late to a launch event for people that had all put down at least $5000, and this guy had 1400 people in front of him for a test drive. Between this and taking a car that was supposed to be delivered to a customer, Musk is acting like a spoiled brat.

Honestly, for someone whose company's stock is at its lowest point in a year, I'd expect Musk to do a better job of caring for the people who make him money.

Consider your order cancelled.

"Tesla stock sinking today. Gas is too cheap."

That and they lowered the projections for number of X's to be sold, and I think the model 3 was delayed further or something. Read an article about it yesterday.

I am patiently waiting for the low fuel prices to push the used Tesla S market prices down as well. Can't wait to grab one soon when the time and price are right.

I'm definitely ok with Musk canceling that guy's order but if it's true that he made all of those people wait at a launch event, that's not cool.

I would too, but the guy got a one on one phone call with Musk, so he got what every disgruntled customer wants. A chance to talk to someone in charge. I have no idea exactly how that call went, but apparently not well. At that point, the customer can speak with their wallet and walk away, but instead this guy choose to whine about it over social media.

I suspect that Musk is probably acting like an *** in this case, but once you start complaining in public, you get to deal with whatever happens after.

Good for him. If the guy has an issue social media is not the way to get it resolved.

Twitter is a fine way to get things like that resolved. Plenty of companies respond to criticism on the platform. Just because ISU has an AD who thinks he shouldn't face criticism in a public field doesn't mean that the CEO of a large corporation shouldn't face criticism from customers who have already payed money for something.

That aside, I have no idea where any of you are getting the idea that Alsop responded on twitter. Alsop is a blogger and he wrote the response on his website where he has a history of talking about the good and bad things that companies have done: https://medium.com/@salsop

I was recently in Beverly Hills, CA...low and behold a "Tesla" dealership. What was more surprising was seeing a "McLaren" dealership.

Musk sounds like a spoiled brat. His stock has been hugely overvalued for some time and it allows him a ton of leeway. He also just loves to use every scrap of government money he can get his grubby little hands on. I do like the cars but I'm starting to think they wouldn't be worth the trouble.

I don't remember who said it but,"I don't care if a guy is an *** hole. I'll still take his money."

As someone who works in automotive as a tier 1 supplier, I can tell you that a Tesla is an overpriced piece of ****. The Malibu has nicer components, minus the computer. So that equates to a $70-90,000 computer.

Some GM and Ford stuff is ok, although any car actually made in Japan or Germany is your best bet. The German cars made in America are junk, this is most of the BMWs and Benzos you see on the road.

I am not saying that you can't get nice, dependable domestic cars and trucks. I am saying that you need to choose wisely when purchasing a "premium" brand vehicle.

What do you think of the Korean stuff?

Tesla's remind me of the "environmentalist' Californian's who tear down a house but "demand" their new house be built with environmentally sustainable materials.

They are a status symbol, that is all. Not saying that is bad, pot meet kettle, but just calling a spade a spade.

An environmentally friendly car that is only for the rich is such oxymoron.

If you have a chance to see the motor, or one of the motors in a new Tesla you will notice the 5 piece "motor wrap." This velcroed on marvel was added last year to reduce motor noise.

Not the move of most $100,000+ automobile manufacturers. If that is your price point and you really want electric right now, go with the BMW i8. Performance and four doors, Porsche Panamera.
