You can get compounded Tirzepitide for $250/mo at online compounders. Reddit groups have lists of the recommended retailers, but i hear radio ads for hims.com for these.
I forgot about those compound pharmacies. That seems to be good option to look into.

My brother-in-law is supposed to start taking this drug called mounjaro for his kidney issues, and his insurance won't cover it. Cost is 1k monthly out-of-pocket, while it's about $200 in Mexico Anyone ever get prescriptions outside of the US?
My girl friend's cousin does it all the time -- she is on blood thinners -- and has no issues

Not sure if this is cheaper, but I've been buying from this company for over a decade. My mother uses some stuff for her eyes that are 1/5 the price buying online. The tricky part is getting a doctor to send them the prescription,

My doctor told me that mounjaro is actually a combination of existing drugs, and you CAN have a pharmacist create a compound for you that is only about the price you mentioned in Mexico. He might consider looking into that.

Good question. I just know insurance won't cover it due to how his diabetes is classified. He's doing dialysis now at home. Id never even heard of the drug
It also won’t be covered because it’s not yet FDA approved for chronic kidney disease yet although there has been promising studies around it.

The drug can slow kidney function decline in a number of ways, reduction of protein excretion in the urine, also lowing glomerular filtration rate, however the side effects can actually lead to AKI and speed up renal failure so that’s why the approval process is taking a long time

That's going away because the FDA decided the shortage was over. So no legal way now in the US to get that other than paying lilly their $1500 per month

This. Any compounding pharmacy offers versions of this. The one down the street from me in our small village in WI offers it for $250 and they don't take insurance on it.

@deadeyededric Have your BIL search compounding pharmacy near him and they will fill his prescription.

I have a client that lives down on the Texas border during the winter and they go over to Mexico to have dental work done and stock up on prescriptions.
My uncle does this too. They also get pet meds there a lot cheaper and bring us anything we need.

They live in Maryville,MO so KC is only an hour and change down the road. I've shared all these suggestions with my sister and in-law. Great information everyone, thank you so much.

My wife's brother gets his insulin in Mexico, had little or no insurance before he got on Medicare at 65. My folks got medicine for my dad when he was alive from Canada and it was cheaper than what he was getting through the VA by quite a bit. They pick up some inhalers that was something like .20 cents on the dollar to what they were paying here through the VA. My mom was shocked it was exactly the same box and company that they were getting here.

Meds without insurance is the biggest scam going?

Back before amoxicillin went generic my mom had cellulitis on her foot. I picked up a bottle for her (no part D then) and it was around that $100 for a bottle. A few weeks later I was sent water meds for my pigs, amoxicillin. Same sized bottles so I picked the label off. Was the same thing and some had the paper that told you how to mix for human use. I checked and those bottles were under 10 bucks. Difference was human or animal use, not the product. Now amoxicillin is like $2-3 per bottle.

About 10 years ago, my cousin lived in San Diego. She was a lifelong diabetic and used to cross the border regularly to purchase her insulin, because it was so much less expensive. She would buy as much as she could, and did it several times over the course of a few years, until one time when she was coming out of the pharmacy and Mexican authorities arrested her and threw her in jail. Apparently they'd had their eye on her, and hit her with charges that effectively amounted to "smuggling" and"intent to deliver". She spent almost 4 months in custody, before my uncle was able to get her out. Not a good situation. Not saying this is something that happens often, but in her case, it was pretty awful.

We are doomed that this is/was a thing. Just sleep walking through what should be completely unacceptable to all of us.
