Wolf spiders are pretty neat, and not dangerous at all.. THey accidentally may stumble into the house but are all in all harmless. They eat little insects that people go bats over. Let him be, or put him outside. No need to kill them. Brown recluse spiders do occur in Iowa, but they are really pretty uncommon and are very reclusive. Most of "spider" bites are not spiders at all, and many are not even bites. It is just easy for a mom, friend or even doctor to say it is a spider when it isnt..
In my two run ins with BR's I seem to remember them being "shiny" for lack of a better term, almost the look of a nice hardwood floor.
