Phil Parker just got told he needs to score at least 2 TDs a game.
These goals are team goals, not offensive goals. Why not a goal to finish the year in the top 75 in offensive yards per game?

Iowa's offense scoring was less than 17 points/game last year and was 130th in offense per game. Defensive scoring was a must to achieve the record they had, Parker will be the one losing his job if the hoks don't average 25.

Iowa has averaged 8 wins a year for the past 5 years so no stretch there.

Barta...I mean Kirk... wins again.

Oooooo a $50k paycut!

I'm going to lol when Iowa is up 20-6 in the second half against Utah State or Western Michigan and instead of doing the Kirk constrict the life out of the game they go to run up the score and throw a pick and all the sudden it's a game.

Such a weird contract.

It's hilarious. People lost their **** at the Kyler Murray contract, but this is way, way stupider.

For those that have Sirus XM Childers and Neuheisel just went off on issue and basically chided Iowa for a petty gesture and a low definition of success. If you want to listen, I jumped in the car mid-stream of their segment at about 10:05 CST on ESPNU Radio.

I don't know if their facts are accurate, but Childers noted that for Fernentz to get paid (from what I can see more than he was paid previously), Iowa only needs to finish 85th in points scored.

A colossal improvement.

When did Iowa last average at least 25ppg for a season?
2022: 17.7 ISU: 20.2
2021: 23.4 ISU: 31.3
2020: 31.8 ISU: 32.9
2019: 25.8 ISU: 32.2
2018: 31.2 ISU: 26.8
2017: 28.2 ISU: 29.2
2016: 24.9 ISU: 27.7
2015: 30.9 ISU: 25.0
2014: 28.2 ISU: 23.2
2013: 26.3 ISU: 24.8

So 7 out of last 10 years less than 30 PPG and 4 out of last 7 years less than 26 PPG

Edit: added ISU during the last 10 years

2020 was the COVID year and is a total outlier and not sure you can really take anything from it.

Yes, it is a moronic contract as was already said it could actually cost Iowa a game if they would usually sit on the ball with a lead and now be forced to keep doing things you wouldn't normally do because of the PPG average.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette just reported that Phil Parker did not take this news well. He's already informed Kirk Ferentz that he's on his own...there will be no pick sixes, scoop and scores or punt blocks next season.

Watch them trot Petras out on the field as the starter next year because he outperforms McNamara in practice. God that would be glorious.

So this ‘contract’ is about $50,000.00 (roughly)? What a fantastic troll job by UofI to its fan base. Brian won’t give a **** about that…..

Utah State Aggies (Hawks opening game) = 99th in Opponents PPG (30.8)

Western Michigan Broncos = 52nd (25.6) but gave up 36.4ppg in the first seven games.

Perfect world for us:

Iowa scores big time against those two which skew the average and Brian stays in IC despite a return to the norm for the rest of the season. I cannot believe Barta is smart enough to tie Ferentz's compensation to the median vs the mean.

Oh I think a lot of people are mis-reading this situation. Brian Ferentz isn't going to fail, outside of literally murdering a player during a live broadcast.

Kirk will not allow it. If Brian doesn't hit those numbers, a new contract will be drawn up with similar terms. As soon as Brian hits those numbers, Kirk will retire and Brian will be the head coach.

The only thing stopping this would be, you know, actually enforcing the anti-nepotism rules. If that wasn't going to happen after last season, it ain't happening. Ever.
Just because daddy won't let him fail, doesn't mean he won't fail in the eyes of...you know...everyone else with half a brain.

So when we're beating Iowa next September, does Heacock allow Iowa to score some points to try to boost their scoring average?

That would be the ultimate troll job. Just tell your defense to very obviously get out of the way to let them score.
