I agree in some aspects, but we are getting at least 3 roster/scholly spots open next year to graduation, plus the 1 extra we have currently. Maybe even up to 5 if MM leaves. We will have plenty of scholly spots, and I could even see them asking for him to preferred walkon if he doesn't show any improvement in the next 2 years.

Naz, McKay, Niang, Nader all graduate: (4)
Currently open: (1)
Possible: Tsalboris & Morris (1-2)

5-7, assuming no additional attrition

Welcome to CyclONE Nation Brady! Love a kid with a chip on his shoulder. You sound like a hard worker.

He is a great pickup right now. I have watched him play on the AAU seen and he has the body and skills to play at ISU and be a starter in a couple years. He is athletic and has a wide shoulder base that will allow him to put on a bunch of weight.

Lol OK. Fred knew that you go after the big guys if you can and you can always fill in with talented transfers and jucos.

I don't want to harp on the kid because I'm sure he's a hard worker and great and everything, but Fred was getting those players to walk on.

I think it's safe to say Fred had the best recruiting strategy in ISU history. Nothing has ever worked better. It's absurd to flip flop and act like it wasn't good. Especially since we mightve gotten Diallo if he'd have actually been coaching ISU for the last two months here.

Prohm probably realizes that Fred was uniquely skilled at selecting the right transfers and making it work for most of them at ISU--and that the same approach might not yield similar results for him in the long term.

My bad. You guys are right. Clearly he was awesome. Lottery pick, probably.

Greece is a teeny-tiny little country. If you're 7 feet tall and live in Greece, you're on the national team even if you've never touched a basketball.

Call me names if you want but I stand by what I said. The guy was never going to play regularly in the Big XII. Ever. I'd way rather that scholarship go to an Iowa kid.

PS: And everyone ******** he's a low-ranked recruit, so what? Does EVERY scholarship player start? Is every scholarship player a super star? No. This is a solid, late pick-up of a kid who will probably work his *** off for this program.

Given the situation, timing, and slim pickings he's a solid addition. But you have don't have a clue what upside and potential is if you think he's better than the Greek.

We will still have to fill 5-7 scholarships in the next year even with this guy. That's still plenty of room to find some studs. When you have 13 scholarships, you will always have 2-3 guys that are long shots to play significant minutes.

True. And some of those 5-7 are going to have to be jucos or other transfers.

The timing is really bad for getting a big splash first recruit. I'll reserve judgement until the 2016 class starts to form.

Absolutely. This has zero impact on one's outlook on Prohm. It just shows you how ****ed we got in recruiting by the Hoiberg NBA lust the past 2 offseasons. At least he didn't stay for next year.

It still surprises me how many people think we get 15 scholarships.

It's just 13. Well NOW I have to totally rethink my argument. 13 take away 8 guys in a rotation leaves 5 guys that are contributing in practice, in the classroom, with depth, being good teammates, leadership. Yep - my argument fails afterall.

This thread is embarrassing! Give the kid a break.

A couple of good coaches thinks he has potential, good enough for me!

Read the QC news article, watch the film.

He is a less athletic than Burton, Nadar, McKay. He looks like he has developed some decent post moves for a high school senior and hustles up and down the floor. His quotes sound like he has a BIG "I am going to work hard to prove you wrong" chip on his shoulder. Some of the same comments in this thread sound like some others we read 3-4 years ago for a guy that is now an All-American.

I hope to participate in drinking games during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 when Fran and Brent are talking about how he was ignored by everyone when he was recruited. The only thing missing is he did not play in high school with Nerlens Noel! One big difference is with his high jump ability, they will have to admit he can jump higher than a credit card flat on the ground!

Welcome to ISU Mr. Ernst, I look forward to watching your development.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a no-lose situation with the scholly situation and the time of year it is. Even if he's a complete bust it won't matter. Maybe he develops and contributes.

Agreed. People don't understand that recruiting HS kids usually takes several months if not years.

Fred couldn't commit to recruits. We only had one assistant with HS recruiting ties, and we basically only recruited kids that could literally go anywhere they wanted to. ISU is never going to win many battles against KU and UK.

you realize the gesell outplayed morris the year before, right? I was looking at a head to head matchup, not careers or NBA prospects. it wasnt some outlandish opinion even if you and your roommates repeat it 100 times.

You're clinging Johnny.

I'm guessing that the coaches think he can actually play some minuets next year. If they just needed a body for practice, they could have found a walk-on. Hopefully, he can give us Edozie-like minuets of the bench, play a little defense and grab a rebound or two.

Check the IP addresses, bud.. I'm very liberal with my likes.

It doesn't matter if you and dognuts are two people or one person.

Either way it's just one or two people who are Hawkeye trolls that pretend to be Cyclone fans for some reason, you might as well be one person even if you aren't.

We all criticize ISU teams at times, but it's obvious when someone is pretending to be an ISU fan. Hope you enjoyed the beatdown at Carver this year.

The other day when his name was brought up in a different thread I said I thought we could do better than a guy with only a "bunch of mid-major" offers. After reading a little more and hearing he had interest in high major schools like Iowa, Minnesota and Texas before he tore his knee makes me feel a little better. What I said still exists and I hope Brady proves me wrong. Glad to have him on board, especially if we lose Georgios.

I think it was the definition of an outlandish comment. Morris is an elite PG, MG is an average PG at best with below average scoring abilities. Nobody with common sense compares two players off one head to head matchup

Holy cow, Batman! Those of us looking for a Royce White-type signee at this time of year were bound to be disappointed with anyone we signed. With a new coach getting going in mid-June, what were you expecting? Are many of you the same folks who were freaked out that we needed bigs depth?!

My take:
- We need some inside depth, regardless of if GT comes back (GT is pencil thin and a perimeter guy; you can't teach 7', I know, but he had lots of improvement to go before he added anything)
- Young Mr. Ernst is obviously a good athlete, if he can high jump like that.
- Understands that we took a chance on him and is going to work his butt off.
- Could be a contributor in a few years, and we might need some minutes from him this year.
- We are evidently going to play some more D and rebound, so there may be a place for him.
- Don't mention Gesell and Monte in the same time zone.

I don't think I said anything about your inaccurate argument.

That's the point- we are in need of a big man and taking a midmajor kid coming off an ACL is considered a no-lose. This very well may be the current best option, but that fact is telling.
