The Old Duffer cited in that article wants to go back to the Old Bowl System and wants to return to deciding the National Champion to Human Polls again.

And the reason he is so opposed to expansion is that he does not want those other schools to get more money because they might improve their facilities and compete better. He must hate what is happening at Iowa State. And probably wishes we were back in Clyde Williams Field.

Exactly, he sounded really ignorant. The part where he was talking about not wanting to build up lesser schools (he pretty much just wants OU to be king and have no competition). Then his argument saying getting the Playoffs isn't a big deal because OU wouldn't have been able to field a team because of injuries sustained against Clemson. Wow, this guy needs to be removed from the BoR for mental issues.

Don't miss the real message;

OU won't vote for expansion and won't sign a GoR extension. They're done helping the Big XII and at or near the end of the GoR and will go where the money is as soon as they can.

That was the BoR message but I believe Boren wants expansion and will vote for it despite the BOR.

If reporters wanted a real scoop, instead of regurgitating the same old stories about expansion candidates, they ought to start poking around for some answers as to whether the existing schools will sign a GoR extension when the expansion occurs. Expansion without a signed GoR extension is useless.

I find the Texas schools very interesting in all of this. Texas, TCU and Tech appear to be dragging their feet. Naturally Texas would be coy until they know how it will affect the LHN. I wonder if part of their reluctance is to use support as a trade to control division alignment. May be their play is old Big 12 South comes back to life.

OU wants the easiest path the National Championship game. They don't want to play in the SEC. They might like to go to the Big Ten but Oklahoma is not a AAU school or a Carnegie I school. So their best option is to stay in a stronger Big 12.

The Old Duffer quoted in the article is pretty clueless. He wants a return to the Old Bowl System and Human Polls for the National Championship. I would not consider that guy to be the voice of Oklahoma.

I think the Oklahoma BoR would win that disagreement. Plus it gives Boren cover as the good cop regardless of his intentions.

OU ratrionale will be that;

1. The Big 12 has diminishing returns...eventually the $$$ disparity will damage their NC ambitions

2. The Big 12 will be viewed by the committee as weaker than the other P5 and they'll only have an NC shot as an undefeated...where a one loss B1G/SEC is in.

OU lost to UT last year before being invited to the championship series.

Absolutely true but OU won't sit by while UNL, Mizzou and aTm are making more money and UT has it's own network.

I love to hear from an OU fan in here to tell us they're pleased with the league. They should be...but they're not.

So you think that OU will bolt to the SEC where the Sooners get to play Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Miss. State.......every year......because they will be in the SEC West Division.

That is one helluva gauntlet.

Big 12 missed out on the College Football Playoff money in the first year of the CFP. That really hurt. Going forward the Big 12 needs expansion and a CCG. You pick up about $3 million per team with a CCG. Get a network and we are not so far off.

Who's not that far off? Texas will want to made whole if the LHN is converted. The rest will get what's leftover. So Texas might not be far off, but what about OU?

$$$ inequality and the Big 12....never makes for a happy home

Oklahoma fans are mad at the Big 12, but it has nothing to do with money or on field success.

They simply think they're better than it, the home slate is boring, and don't realize that those things aren't going to change if they join the Big 10, SEC or Pac 12.

They're making a **** load of money (and will get re upped at the end of the current deal) and are coming off one of the best revenue sports seasons in school history. Oklahoma Fan wants out, but it's not really about money. It's some weird self-imposed ego thing.

Not exactly. There was a bigger financial gap at the time, and OU isn't that mad at Texas (I don't think) the way A&M was. A&M got a big pay raise and was just obsessed with somehow "spiting" Texas. OU's motivation is that the non-Texas schools aren't good enough for them and they want to hob-knob with more blue bloods.

Just ask Nebraska how all those games against OSU and Michigan are working out.

Big 12 fell way behind when it did not make the CFP that first year. Big 12 would make an additional $3 million per team if we simply had a CCG. Getting a CCG might mean making the CFP. The study conclude that the odds of making the CFP would go up 15% if we would have 2 six team divisions and play 8 conference games and have a CCG.

Remember that 3rd Tier rights are not included right now in Big 12 payout numbers. Kansas gets $6 million. K-State gets $4 million. Oklahoma was getting $7.5 million in 3rd tier rights in 2013. West Virginia was getting over $9 million in 2013.

Heard that Big 12 members got about $9.5 million less than SEC this past year. But SEC figures include 3rd tier rights and they have a CCG. Add in $3 million per school, 3rd tier rights, and get to the CFP and we are not really far off at all with the SEC.
