I enjoy the hell out of blow outs that the Cyclones are handing out, as I get stressed during the games and that calms me down, but if I'm just watching a couple of random teams go at it, I will channel surf for another game once it gets out hand.

For football, our blowout of Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl was definitely an all time best. Worst might have been the aforementioned Utah game because it felt like our program could have taken a step there and we showed we weren't quite at the level that we hoped to be.

The Fiesta Bowl win was fun, but it was a bit sad that there were not any fans there to enjoy it.

My favorites are when you build up disdain for an opponent over the course of several years (losing along the way), then when you get the chance at revenge, physically imposing your will and mentally breaking the opponent.

Texas 2021 fits that description. Close at halftime, then utter physical and mental domination:

I have an example of each, and both involved my daughter's soccer team and the same opposing team.

My daughter was 12 at the time and she was playing a team from Oklahoma in a tournament. We were playing in an older division since they didn't have enough teams, and the size difference in girls was very apparent at that age. We had a flu bug hit our team and were only able to bring 9 to the game, but the team didn't want to forfeit, so they decided to play short-handed.

Our coach explained the situation and asked the opposing coach if he'd consider playing a person or two short. We'd find out later that the coach's response was, "We came he to win and that's what we're going to do."

Needless to say, we were undermanned, undersized and got completely routed, losing 12-0. The girls were obnoxious, talked ****, fouled a ton, and even trucked our keeper. The parents were also over-the-top, going crazy with every goal. They even brought cow bells. (Friendly tip, don't bring cow bells to your kid's games. You look and sound like a jackass)

Fast forward a year and we ended up playing the same Oklahoma team in the same tournament. This time, we had a full roster, a few new players and a very vivid memory of what happened the prior year.

It. Was. Glorious.

Our girls, now on a much more level playing field in terms of size, played with total revenge on their minds. We were crazy physical (4 yellow cards were given to us - which is pretty much unheard of at that age) and just sprinting to everything on the field. The coaches were jawing back and forth all game. The players were shoving and yelling at each other. The parents were yelling at each other. I'm amazed a fight didn't break out. We had the field marshal sitting between benches for most of the second half.

We ended up winning 13-0 and it is still the most satisfying dismantling of a team that I've ever experienced in person.

Reminds me of playing park and rec soccer as kid. We are getting beat pretty bad and players were talking crap after every goal. I finally game them a piece of my mind with a profanity laced response. Ref heard it and red carded me.

I was like thanks your doing me a favor. This was pre Dennis Rodman taking jersey off after ejections or I would of done that as I left the field. I had a ISU FB game to go to anyway. This was like 92.

In general if it's a satisfying beatdown of a quality opp. I'm all for it, but big wins against overmatched opp I check out. It's one of things I hate about early season non con bball games.

Worst one as a kid was 9 year old me thinking Denver had a chance against SF in the Super Bowl. Then 55-10 happened.

Freshman year my JV team went 0-8. I think it was the next-to-last game of the season when we went to Washington, which was a considerably bigger school than we were. I think the final score was 78-0. That was the only football game I ever played in that I wanted to just be done at halftime.

Two years later when I was on varsity with a lot of the same players, we went 7-2. Didn’t have to play Washington, though.

Somehow I remember the 2012 Baylor night game I was at as a blowout by the Cyclones, but looking back it was close until Iowa State pulled away in the second half, up 35-14 in the fourth quarter until Baylor scored a late TD. It was still pretty satisfying, though, considering ISU was blown out by Baylor the year before, and then the year following … less said about that the better.

A cousin played basketball for Ottumwa Walsh in the late sixties, in the sectionals in 1969 they beat Blakesburg 172-12. Seems Blakesburg wasn’t very good. Eight players in double figures and…supposedly…the starters sat after the first quarter.

1982 Washington 28-0, 1986 UCLA Ronnie Harmon 4 fumbles $. 1991 Washington 46-34; 33-7 at the half.

But my favorite Hok Rose Bowl blow-out was the 2016 Stanford embarrassment...

And to add insult to injury...

LOL, I remember the Iowa fans getting all bent out of shape about the Stanford ban, heck I thought it was pretty funny.

In 2002 I was really bummed out we decided to kill clock and go conservative instead of beating Nebraska 50-0 like we clearly could have. I want to think we were up 4 scores when we just decided to kill the clock for a good chunk of the second half.

I lived in Nebraska a few years growing up and their fans really deserved some blowout losses.

I believe the loss still knocked Nebraska out of the rankings for the firs time in decades. It definitely felt like a blowout win even though the final score was only like a 3 score margin.

Don’t know if this qualifies for this thread, but reading this nugget about Gayle Sayers, my favorite football player (along with **** Butkus) growing up. Seems like coming out of high school he was recruited by a lot of schools and wanted to go to University of Iowa. However, Jerry Burns, the Squawk coach, didn’t even bother to meet Gayle during his only campus visit, he told a Chicago radio station, so he chose Kansas. Did not know that and that gave me a big chuckle.

I was living in LA during 2016 Rose Bowl and saw before/after of the Iowa fans emotions in person. I actually felt sorry for them and was glad no friends/family spent the $$$ given the massive ticket price. CMC had just under 400 yards but probably could have gotten like 600 yards if they really wanted to focus on getting him the ball.

One high school game in the 1970s, Van Buren hosted Hedrick. Hedrick brought 11 players and the water boy. Van Buren led 60-0 at halftime and when they came back for the second half out of the locker room, they found that Hedrick had already got into the bus and left.

This is interesting. I never knew that Sayers wanted to go to Iowa.

Biggest blowout I ever witnessed was East Waterloo over Newton 98-6. Jerry Moses touched the ball I think 11 times and scored 11 touchdowns. I lived in the Newton school district at the time and while most of the Cardinal fans were upset at the margin, my brother and I just sat there in utter amazement watching Moses and I don’t think I went to the concession stands for my usual popcorn because I didn’t want to miss the second half kickoff to Moses.

It's hard to remember when the Waterloo schools were good, they've been stress tested academically, financially, sports wise for a longtime now it seems like. I also could be wrong about this I live a ways away from there and only catch bits and pieces, and the good isn't what anyone covers.
