Just wish we would come up with something unique. First we copy USC and now we copy LSU. Is it that hard to be original?

Dam you Chris, writing a well-reasoned article about why uniforms do matter. Now there's another thing us curmudgeons can't complain about.

Is this a trick question? Because the obvious answer is yes it is if you want to look good. Traditional uniforms look better because of some simple concepts. Those concepts don't change because you change your uniforms. There are reasons some outfits and uniforms look better to most people.

If you want to look stupid, like wings on shoulders Hawkeye uniforms then you can be unique.

The old guy down the street is unique in his attire, but I don't want to mirror that.

So. I love cool uniforms and I can't wait to see the all white uniforms.

That said, it annoys me to no end reading crap like this:
A couple of weeks ago, PickSixPreviews.com surveyed 100 perspective D-1 football players. The results are exactly what I expected, but won't fit the curmudgeon crowd's narrative.

You see Alabama prominently listed in this piece as the worst uniform. If uniforms are so important, then WHY does Alabama continually have top-rated recruiting classes?

Uniforms matter. I agree. But this is overblown. The ability to get recruits to sign the line which is dotted relies on many more factors besides just uniforms.

Think about it this way, if you're Brad Pitt, you can put on a shabby T-shirt and gym shorts and go to bar and probably have any girl you want. If you're an average to terrible looking guy, you probably need to put in a little more effort. A good personality goes a long way, but why not do anything you can do to improve your odds?

I have to agree. A 'cyclone' is one of the most destructive forces in nature. The attempted logo from long ago was 'dainty' at best. I'm sure a good graphic artist can use the whole helmet (ala The Cincinnati Bengals) and craft a cyclone that is intimating to look at.

Maybe take this away from it...

Recruits will put up with crappy uniforms if they're playing on a championship team.

We don't have a championship team, so every little edge (real or perceived) will help.

And Jiminy Christmas - does the word "perspective" in the headline of the article bug anyone else as much as it does me?? It's PROSPECTIVE, you nitwits.

Ah, so I'm not the only one of "those" people here.

I guess 12-0 is in the bag now. I was iffy on that 3.5 win line. But I'm cashing in the home equity, college savings plans and retirement accounts cause we have WHITE HELMETS!!!

If you don't like it, or don't care about it, then don't effing worry about it.

Guess what, the recruits and players DO like it. And that's exactly why Campbell is doing it.

That's more important than what a few fans think of it.

Many of these are the same fans that complain about twitter. They don't like it, but it doesn't really matter what they like.

So what is the age where people start to hate things like this? I'm under 30 and I think the white helmets are awesome. Feed me more.

Someone brought up coping LSU....if you look in the background ole miss hard almost the same jersey in different colors. You will be hard pressed to find something original besides changing color combinations

Agree with this. I do think that people give way too much credit to uniforms when they reference the two extreme programs, Baylor and Oregon. That simply discredits two brilliant coaching staffs over the past 5-10 years.

There are some other examples of teams that have gone to a significantly different new look uniform-wise that haven't done anything on the field. If you look, their recruiting nor their W/L has changed a bit. I'm thinking Maryland, Texas Tech, Indiana. I'm sure there are some examples both ways, but I'd have to think coaching staffs, tradition, facilities, etc. are MUCH bigger factors. No reason not to try. They do look sharp.

I'm officially older than the football coach, and I love it. They are trying to do anything they can to increase visibility and get a buzz going. They know what recruits and players want and they are doing their best to give it to them.
