I am sure one of you has had this problem. I have birds in my dryer vent, but it is on the 2nd floor, so the dang thing is about 25 feet off the ground. I am not good with heights... Does anyone know a company in the DSM area that will come and roto rooter those stupid things out and then cap the vent?

Can't you just disconnect on the inside and scare them away (putting a screen or something over it so they don't ly in)?

Yeah but the dryer vent goes up the wall and over the ceiling through the attic. It is a stupid design. I guess i could move the washer and dryer and push something through, but it has to turn a corner then also.

I can't count how many times I have had birds in exhaust fans or dryer vents and catching them in a garbage bag is easy but they will come back so you have to kill them. What I did was replace the vent covers. I called all over to find a rodent guy that would do it but found no one. Any carpenter/siding company will fix it but get the birds out first

Step one - disconnect vent tube from driyer
Step two - buy the following item:

Step 3: Place flame thrower up vent tube and pull trigger

Should work really well, although it will probably smell bad, and you may burn your house down.

True, i wonder if there are any carcases back there. Now I am going to have to move them just to find out. Maybe I will need to get a net to catch them that way. I refuse to climb up a ladder and stand on the top rung to fix this.

I had a similar problem. Make sure once they get the bird out, they put a wire mesh in front of it.

Put some sort of metal netting over the entry on the outside. Disconnect the dryer inside. Borrow Willow (Yoda's bunny killing cat) and stick him inside the dryer vent inside. He'll come out when the deed is done.

I'd try to get them out ASAP, we had one die in our dryer vent in college and it took about one load of laundry to know that my day was ruined.

I've never had a bird in my dryer vent, but did once have a green-winged teal (kind of smallish duck) fall down our chimney and into our wood stove. When I tried to open the stove and throw a towel over it to grab it, the duck sidestepped the towel and got out into the basement (where the stove was). We chased the flying duck around the basement for about 10 minutes before finally exhausting itself enough that we cornered it and got the towel over it, then carried it outside and let it go.

have had before and just took the tin connector off of back of dryer that connects dryer to vent and pulled all of the mess out.. mine where dead. Then you need to put some mesh or wire cover on the outside one so they dont get back in. Whoever built the darn thing should have.

But to answer your question, no dont know of a company. Im sure any rodent/pest/insect control company would do it.
