I'd use an airhorn and scare the birds out and then just put some metal mesh over it.

Duct cleaning companies will do your dryer vents as a single service, or as part of cleaning all your ductwork. I have had the ducts cleaned twice since I built my home in 1995. If you have allergies or pets, periodic cleaning does help.

As soon as I get out of this meeting I will be calling one of them to see if they can come do it.

It swallowed the cat to catch the bird, it swallowed the bird to catch the spider, it swallowed the spider to catch the fly. I don't know why it swallowed the fly.

Perhaps it'll die! (Read in a sing songy voice)

Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly is one of my toddlers favorite books. Still creeps me out a little every time I read it too her.

I could care less if they are dead, I just want them out and my wife to be happy again.

Not excited about them not calling you back, I left a message, hopefully that was an anomaly and not a pattern.
If you're calling Stroud, I should've mentioned that this is a side business for him -- he has a job in construction (fulltime on animal trapping means starvation in most cases).

I also use my gas leaf blower to clean out the dyer duct every year. Disconnect vent from the dyer and insert the leaf blower, it really cleans it out. Make sure and have all the windows and doors open when using the gas blower in the house.

That's a great idea! I have an electric one.

Why? Birds are like mice, there are plenty of them and they dont care about you when the cause damage.
Seems like a good set of criteria when determining how to deal with problems.

What would you recommend for politicians?

It is when dealing with wild animals. If you take the humane way most of the time they just come back anyway if you dont put them to rest.

I had this problem at a condo I had in Urbandale. I can't stand birds so I just called a pest control company. When the guy showed up (Sunday as I remember) I showed him the dryer and grabbed a couple of beers to take to my bedroom and told him to just knock on my door when it was time to pay him. Pretty sure I thought there was a chance the damn bird could get into the house hence the closed bedroom door. (I really can't handle birds) When he was done in just a couple of minutes I asked him how he did that. He said he had a can of something that takes away their air and causes them to escape the way they got in. Probably cost me $60 or so (in the 80's) but money very well spent. Condo assoc (Plumwood) then put wire on the vents I believe.

After 4 calls to different places, I got a chimney sweep and dryer vent cleaning company that said extracting birds would not be an issue. He will be here tomorrow.

Couldn't agree more. When I lived in STL I had a mess of Robins that would literaly over take my yard and porch and poop all over my deck. So I got a gun shot 2 of them and hung them up in my deck area for a couple of days. Problem solved the birds never came back to poop on my porch.

I took the humane approach the first time by catching them in a garbage sack and letting them outside. When they got back in I killed them.

I'd try to get them out ASAP, we had one die in our dryer vent in college and it took about one load of laundry to know that my day was ruined.

Try cooking a chipmunk in the vent that you didn't know was in there. And yes, it was WAY ripe by the time I found its maggot infested little carcass.

Birds have been evicted! Dryer vent line all cleaned out too. Well worth the costs to find someone to fix this. He even had a fiber optic camera so he could double check that he got everything.

So you got a bird's eye view too - nice bonus! Congrats on the subtraction!
