And it was a failure by GG and BVDV to fire LE, instead of giving him the opportunity to rehab, and i think a lot of fans thought, and continue to think that.
Right. Billy is more likely to get a DUI than the other candidiates based on history.
He didn't get help after the first 2. He didn't get fired after the first 2, he actually got better job offers. I think the last 2 years would have sobered him up.
Then you don't have an AD's mentality either, because I guarantee any coaching hire is a gamble.
Kansas State took a gamble on Bob Huggins. He built up the atmosphere and brought in good assistant coaches and recruits. He only stayed for a year and KSU has skyrocketed since.
I am willing to experiment if it means bringing in a coach who was once considered a top coaching prospect and has had huge success in the Big12.
First you have to get BCG to sign the contract and not just the 1 page memo of understanding. I don't think he ever did sign the Kentucky contract.
From what I read, Gillespie has been arrested 3 times for DUI and convicted once. So technically Gillespie has 1 DUI conviction.
LE resigned. NOT because he had his picture taken holding a can of beer. But because he was a married man and drinking and carousing at college campus parties after ISU BB games. It was conduct unbecoming of an ISU Coach. LE was given another chance at Southern Miss. and is having modest success.
Unfortunately, we don't know who the other 14 coaches are that contacted Gary so I can't really answer the question. I just find it humorous that people are claiming Billy is the best possible candidate without knowing who the other candidates are.
Exactly. If we had to fire every coach who was seen with beer in their hands, we might have to fire every single coach who was at Cy's House of Trivia last week.
I will give you that, but I am willing to bet there is not one that we have a legitimate shot at with a better coaching pedigree.
So yes, I don't know whether coach K contacted Gary, but I'm guessing not.
I find it humorous that people think bigtime coaches are breaking down the door to have this job. Let's face it, he has some problems, but is the biggest name out there.
