They like a winner. The Bush Era Trojan teams had a solid following. The Lakers are absolutely LA's team.

But it's tough to get the attention if there isn't one heck of a draw. It can be done, but it's such a ******* great place to live that it's one option of many

The Dodgers were #1 in attendance in 2019 and the Angels were #5. SF was #11. Lakers games are always full, LA and Anaheim hockey is always full. Warriors games, packed. Sharks games, etc. Throw in the biggest non-major tennis tournament in the world, boxing, X-Games and Olympic style sports.

I don't get this Californians don't care about sports thing. They clearly do.

I'm in the minority I'm sure... but I actually prefer Boise St over Houston. Boise St is a well known commodity in college football.... and not bad in MBB either actually. They also have great passionate fans too.... which Houston does not.

Also gives a little more footprint out west to add both BYU and Boise.
I agree. Wonder if the GOR in AAC vs. MWC came into decision-making.
Duh. Newsflash, Ohioans care more about those teams than UC…that’s where the eyeballs line up. Can that change with UC in the Big 12, being the second college team in the state…maybe.

For the record I think they’re a solid add.
Colleges play on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday- so an apples & oranges ranking. Plus there is a lot of overlap of eyeballs between college & NFL.

Using the original logic Houston may not be in top 10 in Texas after Cowboys, Texans and a few HS programs

Somewhat curious the Big12 decided to add 4 teams to replace 2.

Also surprised they decided to act so quickly. With the Big10 & Pac12 TV contracts expiring before Big12, would seem like we could have slow played expansion.
If 2 of the current 8 were to get a golden ticket between now and 2025 i wonder who the next 2 might be. My guess is Boise and Memphis.

Let’s put it another way, in an Iowa perspective but this is a hyperbole; Ohio State to UC is like Iowa to UNI. 99% of Bearcat fans are Ohio State fans, just like 99% of UNI fans are Hawkeye fans.

The question is how large of a dedicated fanbase UC can create by being in the Big 12. It was the same way in Ohio when UC was in the Big East, but granted even though that was considered a power conference…it always felt G5. Times have changed, and UC has improved, but they are a project. A solid add, yes, but a project.

Here's an article that states the case for the 4 schools. I know there's going to be arguing who the fourth team should be instead of Houston but we have to remember Jamie was part of the group that vetted all the options and Houston was chosen to be the best add. (likely with input form ESPN/FOX). The 4 schools bring the most value to the next deal and we just need to accept that.

If for some reason the B1G took us and KU, or the Pac took Tech and OSU, and no one else moved - then the clear answer would be adding Boise State and Memphis; the only real alternative would be standing pat at 10.

Out of pure travel and fun for a fan base. I’m ok with this. This is the best option. It’s better than moving to the mountain west or AAC. I have a guy feeling nine of it will matter in ten years anyway. I think we have only seen small tremors. I think the earthquake in college sports is coming in the next decade.

But NFL plays on Sunday and college plays on Saturday. I care more about Iowa State than I do the Chiefs, but I still watch every game for both. Comparing fan bases for college and NFL is not a valid comparison.
