BYU is a logical choice with semi-national brand/religious organization.

Cincy I'm OK with. Over the last 18 or so years, they've had 5 coaches and all of them have had decent to great success. Brian Kelly, Butch Jones, and Luke Fickel all have posted 10/11 win seasons. Dantonio and Tubberville posted 9 win seasons as their high water mark. That program doesn't have name cachet, but is better than people realize. Good area for recruiting to that program.

UCF. The fact that they could be in a P5 conference and Scott Frost is not (in the near future) is good enough for me.

Not really liking the Houston addition. Would prefer Memphis which has the recruit rich Tennessee/SEC region to draw from. Memphis has been solid under Fuente and Norvell.

The last few Houston coaches did have a really great season here and there, but they really haven't outperformed Cincy in a far better recruiting region. Holgerson has not done well there wither.
Really? You place recruiting for Memphis/TN about Houston?

Newsflash: Browns and Bengals are not college teams. Cincinnati is 2nd best program in Ohio. BYU is 1 or 2 in Utah depending on the year. Houston and UCF are definitely 4th at best in their states, but they are also in large states.

Duh. Newsflash, Ohioans care more about those teams than UC…that’s where the eyeballs line up. Can that change with UC in the Big 12, being the second college team in the state…maybe.

For the record I think they’re a solid add.

Until the Browns and Bengals start playing on Saturdays I guess I don’t see why it matters where the eyeballs are on Sundays.
Californians care more about the Rams, 49ers and even Raiders more than they care about USC. Would you not take the Trojans?

The point is they are Buckeye fans primary, and NFL fans secondary. In Cali, they are NFL primary, and pick-your-college secondary. The Buckeyes dominate Saturdays in Ohio, and dominate Ohio sports in general. UC is barely on the radar on Saturday.

And it's largely pick your NFL team too....

I’m not saying OSU doesn’t dwarf them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have triple or quadruple the eyeballs on Saturdays. I’m saying it’s stupid to pretend that games on Sunday effect viewership on Saturdays. It’s like saying you can’t have the championship game on a Monday because NFL eyes will be watching the playoffs on Saturday and Sunday.

I mean, people in California just don’t really care about sports period. Maybe the Lakers but just because being at those games have certain celebrity social effect.

They like a winner. The Bush Era Trojan teams had a solid following. The Lakers are absolutely LA's team.

But it's tough to get the attention if there isn't one heck of a draw. It can be done, but it's such a ******* great place to live that it's one option of many

I didn’t say that. Eyeballs also equal fan support…they are all on the Buckeyes on Saturday…then all on the NFL on Sunday.

I think EVERYBODY'S wish is that we end up in the BIG or the PAC. That's not happening now; heck, the BIG looked at adding right after TU and OU bailed on us (*according to The Athletic) and not enough (if anybody) wanted to add teams to the BIG. Not going to lie, I shed an internal tear or ten that day. That one really hurt. That MAY change (and we can only hope & pray) in the future that we get added or added to a 64/72 Team Super Conference.

I'm MOST worried that in the future (again, worried, have no basis on this) that KU goes to the BIG/ACC in MBB only; that WVU goes to the ACC in FB only; that OSU goes to the BIG in FB only and the rest of us are stuck in the middle. Just a fear that I have.

So, what do we do moving forward? I Think BYU is the most worthy add; it is the 2nd biggest national religious school w/ a pretty rabid fan base in SLC and the country, and they've actually won a natty in the last 40 years ('84) and they actually just won a natty in XC. UCF is going TO TRY and flex and BE a big dog but the likely reduced payment will keep 'em in check but they're still going to bark. Have NO clue about what else they've done besides the Scott Frost year in FB. Houston? Meh besides MBB recently and Kelvin Sampson is a dirty old dog who is just slimey. Cincinnati? Pretty solid in FB in the last 10 years; they have a medical school (aka $$$) w/ a top notch Children's Hospital.

I THINK these moves are holding on for dear life to gain stability; HOPEFULLY keep the payout the same as we're currently getting (because seriously, we cannot take a min of $10M/year hit x 4 years for the Athletic Program Or the University); and position the Angry 8 for placement when all the TV contracts get renegotiated in 2024-2026. I'm TRYING to not worry about it because honestly, they only thing we can do is cheer and keep getting wins. As Matt C and I went back and forth on Twitter about this, He said (and I agree) that we're better positioned than the national media would portray us. It is the University Presidents (not the AD's) who vote on this stuff, and things like AAU, ticket sales, academic prestige, research dollars, etc still matter at that level. Time will tell. Just wanted to throw all this out there.

Damn, you were taking up Matt Campbells time on Twitter when he should have been preparing for a game?

I would put Houston 6th in Texas after: A&M, UT, TT, TCU and Baylor.

From a football history perspective, I wouldn't put Houston that far above SMU. I understand adding a team in Houston, but I would have rather added a team in another state and maybe closer to Ames, KU, KSU.
