40+? media people in attendance and FH gets three questions. CW shouldn't be hard for you to get some questions in with this "hard working" group!

“He had some lower back spasms going into it. We were doing a one-on-one drill. He took a bad step and kind of aggravated it. It juts locked up. He tried to fight through it but you could tell that he was kind of limping around. I have had back issues. It is not fun. It is hard to do anything. We just want him to be 100 percent healthy before he gets back on the court.”

CFH on week one of practice...

“I have been very pleased with the way everything has gone. Guys are competing. That is the number one thing, for those guys to go out there and play hard. They have been giving me 100 percent effort every night. We had one day where they didn’t start off very well but we got on them and they finished practice very strong.”

On any standouts so far besides the ones you'd expect...

“Calvin Godfrey is a guy that is tough. He understands who he is. He is a monster on the boards. We are going to have to gang rebound. I talked to our perimeter guys about getting in there and helping out on the boards. They are doing a solid job but a lot of nights we are going to be undersized. We need to get the mentality that all five are going to get in there and get the rebound.”

On the Royce White situation --

“We are preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. Hopefully he does get cleared. That is out of our hands right now. If he plays, that is obviously great for us. If not, he’ll be sitting out with those three other guys, building chemistry. Whatever happens, he is prepared for it. He has been doing a great job in the classroom and on the court. He is a beast when he gets in the post.”

I love it when the guards get in there and rebound with the big boys......a la MJ, Magic, Oscar Robertson, Jason Kidd.....

Trivia Question (don't look it up, just guess):
Who has the most career rebounds out of the list I mentioned above?

Edit: Not that anyone cares, but if you guessed Jason Kidd, you're pretty special. ;) 7853 career rebounds to date and that's good for 60th all time in the NBA (regardless of position). The Big O is 61st on the all-time list with 7804.

I admit when Frank Martin was hired I thought he was a punk. Now I love the guy, he's humble and a hard worker, and obviously his players really play hard for him.

How would you describe your coaching philosophy.

Frank Martin:

"I don't know. Probably fun for you to watch."

How much of Martin's success at K-State is related to Bob Huggins? I know very little about Martin, but it wasn't until Huggins/Beasley that the Wildcats became relevant again in the Big12.
