I know you said Steakhouse, but if your already in the Old Market and enjoy seafood I can't say enough good things about Plank.

I just checked out their website because I thought they had steak on the menu, but they must have taken it off. Years ago when it first open they did and it was just as good as other steak joints.

There was a place 15 - 20 years ago on west side in a strip mall by a Super 8 with lots of NE memorabilia that was fabulous. Any idea of name?

Going out for our anniversary in Omaha tomorrow night. We have done Omaha Prime quite a bit. Has always been good. Happy hour cocktails at the Wicked Rabbit and then off to dinner any recommendations on a steakhouse near the Old Market?

Can't go wrong at Applebee's though. Skip the steak and go with the Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp with a Brewtus of Sam Adams. MMmmmmmmmm. Good.

Jerico’s. Still there and kicking - met some friends for dinner last summer. Maybe some of the best prime rib in town, and definitely the best you’ll ever get in a strip mall.

I haven’t lived Omaha for a few years (decades) but it is my non-expert opinion, based on limited experience, that a lot of the old steakhouses (e.g. Drover) are surviving based on reputation vs. quality.

The whiskey filet at the Drover on South 73rd Street is phenomenal
While I'll agree on the whiskey filet, it doesn't ring the downtown bell. 801 Chop is great...you can't go too wrong on the others mentioned in the thread.

Do yourself a favor in the future...Try both the Drover and Brother Sebs...oh, and Johnny's too.

I've always heard Brother Sebastians is the best, but in all fairness I haven't thought about Omaha Steakhouses in a good 10 years.

That may have been true once, but unless something has changed (plausible!), it hasn’t been true in at least 25 years.

They remodeled?
Now I'm going to have to go over for dinner some evening. Hopefully it still looks like the kind of place where Tony Soprano would have dinner.

to clarify the remodel basically consist of taking the husker stuff off the walls and replacing the 30 year old tables and chairs with ones that might only be 20 years old at best. Definitely still has that Soprano vibe to it.

Went to J. Gilbert’s tonight. It was significantly better than Flemings. I’d go back. Steaks for me and my wife were both seasoned well and cooked properly.

I’d say my favorites in Omaha are (in no particular order): The Drover, 801 Chophouse, J. Gilbert, and the former Flatiron Cafe.

I’ve been to a few of the other ones and they are not my favorite for steak (Gorats, Johnnys, etc.). I have enjoyed these restaurants for other menu items.

Would like to try V. Mertz, Boiler Room, Mahogany Prime, Monarch, and the new one in the new hotel at the Blackstone.

Council Bluffs has 360 at Harrahs, which is good. Pizza King is excellent… I’d go there any day (especially when price is considered).
