Community in Ft. Dodge almost makes it worth going into town.

Is that place still open? I haven't been there in probably a decade, but loved their stuffed pizza (even though I very much prefer thin-crust).

Yep still open.

Mabes Pizza in Decorah is awesome. Highly recommend the trip if you are in the area.

+1 Around the Garden is the best but they are all great. My parents always know to bring us a couple of half baked pizzas when ever they come down to Des Moines.

and i will also second TJ's in Clermont

Thin crust - Gusto Pizza on Ingersoll Av in Des Moines. Best thin crust I've ever had.

Thick crust - Felix and Oscars on Merle Hay Rd in Des Moines

yes it does but el fredos in Sioux city is even better. up there as my favorite and I consider myself a connoisseur. now best in state is my own buffalo chicken pizza on a charcoal grill.

I can't speak to any other pizza in Iowa (haven't had any of note) but I've had some legit pizza in Chicago and Brooklyn and I still say that El Fredo's is the best I've ever had.

And Great Plains is over-rated.

Edit: I love the pizza at The Ritz but I also just love being at The Ritz...

Black Market and Fongs for specialty pizza.

In Des Moines, I like Chuck's.

Here is a picture of the best pizza I've ever had. Of course is not local.

What do you think of Uno Pizza in Chicago? Best deep dish I've had anywhere.

Uno's is ridiculously good

I agree that Great Plains is somewhat overrated. I think Jeff's is the best in Ames, although (full disclosure) I have never had Black Market.

I'm not sure of the best pizza I've ever had - maybe Uno's, actually. I also really like Mabe's in Decorah. But the worst was easily some local shop in San Antonio, TX. I wish I remembered the name so I could warn everyone I know.

Being from Chicago the best pizza in Chicago largely depends on what neighborhood you're from. Usually it's some local "secret" place. Giordano's, Uno's, and Gino's are all pretty good but far from the best. These are more tourist trap places.

Not having sat down and actually rated them I'd say Due is better from memory. Both are better than Giordano's. BUT I've never been to Malnati's...

It's kind of apples and oranges though as they're different types of pizza.

PICKLES PUB KAMRAR, IA.

But please don't go there. I don't like lines, waiting or having to share. Please keep it a local secret to those of us who call northern Story County home.

Also please don't stop at the homemade ice cream shack in Jewell known as Sweet Treats afterwards. I like immediate service, and not having to deal with flavors selling out.
