Where can one get a good bacon cheeseburger pizza? I used to think they sounded gross (pickles on pizza?) but once I tried one, I am hooked.

YES!!! Papa Don's in Superior, WI has the best bacon cheeseburger pizza (or, at least they did 10 years ago) I have ever tried... As far as my favorite pizza place in Iowa, hmm. I was always a big Pizza Ranch fan. Ned bread and pizza and chicken were all excellent. Pasquale's in Humboldt is right up there as well.

Tried Mabes in Decorah for the first time last summer. Don't get up that way very often. Wanting to try something different, I had, I think, Chicken Cordon Bleu Pizza. Fantastic!

This sounds like something similar to Mesa in Iowa City. The mac'n'cheese pizza at Mesa is from God; absolutely outstanding after a night out, and pretty damn solid any other time, too.

Speaking of Pizza, what has happened to Pizza Hut. At one time it wasn't bad pizza, well the pizza still isn't bad but they all seem to be poorly managed.

Does Great Plains tear up anyone else's mouth with all that thick crust? I wanted to love it but I just didn't. It was impractical.

We've been getting the thin Denver crust sometimes now, it's a nice change of pace with the same flavor.

I haven't tried many of the places listed here or have a favorite but haven't seen either of these places mentioned. Both are in Nevada.

-Georges,their sausage and mushroom is awesome
-Alleys, the Italian Classic is very good as is their taco

These are both great options. I miss the George's in Ames, too - I wish they wouldn't have shot themselves in the foot so many times. Alley's also had great alfredo pizza, and some pretty solid chicken/bacon/ranch.

I do like Wig and Pen's flying tomato crust for deep dish. I wish Ames had some good cracker-thin crust, nothing has been very solid since George's left.

We do a lot of "best pizza" threads - I think it would be a good idea to do a "worst pizza" thread. I'd have to go with Pizza Pit's pizza.

One of my peeves is when you order "thin crust" from a place and they bring out a something that's basically their normal pizza with 1/4 the dough. In my view, thin crust is like you describe it, cracker-thin. Crispy. Rigid. It's a totally different style.

Yep, I totally agree. In Ames, Great Plains does that, Jeff's, Old Chicago. I'm not a huge fan of the pizza at Joe's, but theirs is floppy, not cracker-style. I honestly can't think of a place that serves cracker-style crust in Ames besides maybe freaking Pizza Hut?

That Iowa City pizza looks pretty good. Some terrible choices in that list. Imo's for Missouri? C'mon. And that pizza in Bar Cento is not even the best pizza in Cleveland let alone probably the best pizza in Ohio. Vero is better than Bar Cento.

Don't have a problem with the thick crust @ GP but you might want to try one of their thin crust pizzas. I actually like it better than the thick crust.

The Wheelhouse in Ankeny

I just drove by there yesterday and wondered about it - it looked similar in style to Wig & Pen? Would you describe them as similar?

I think it is. The grease quotient is just too much for me, even dabbing it off with a paper towel (which does pretty much nothing, anyway).

It is a thin crust pizza. They have some different types like an egg roll, gyro, and mediterranean. Their wings are also good, they don't have a fryer so they are rotisserie cooked.

Falbo's - Iowa City
Pete's - Indianola
Bordenaro's - South Side Des Moines

Also check out Something Italian in Des Moines on skywalk

Wow, a vote for Pete's in Indianola. I love Pete's Pizza but I often leave there concerned that the special ingredient they put in the pizza is asbestos from the ceiling.
