By end of the year, there is a good chance that you won’t see any of the guys (outside of Ebel) who finished the game play much if at all. Next year it could be special teams.
Well, Brezina and Goodwin are both at four games, so if both are healthy, they’re going to have decisions to make. Complicated by whatever Ellis’ status is.

Otherwise, well, Jon Heacock has no problem playing linebackers two deep, if he has them.

Not exactly sure.

Considering that Bacon is supposed to be back for the last couple games, McLaughlin had been rumored to be in the same boat. That #22 that was playing and then got hurt I’m not sure but if he makes it back with Brezina, then several of the ones who finished wouldn’t be on the field most likely.

No, he isn’t. Bacon is done for the year. Period. End of sentence.

Not sure where anyone is getting that idea from.

Klosterman did nicely. Not as well as Goodwin.

The only real question is how they use Brezina, at Mike or Sam, and that probably depends on Ellis.

In either case, Barnes is probably at least the backup in the middle over Sadowsky, and Goodwin is at least the backup to Ebel outside.

So what we're saying is when we get healthy, we will have 9 or 10 LB's to start? I sure like that compared to the way we were talking prior to the Baylor game!!!!!!!!

There were multiple comments on the game thread about how we’re going to have a monster linebacker corps next year.

And only one of them was from me. ;)

I’m going to trust my source on that before you.

Really?

My source is Matt Campbell. He said it very clearly.

If you want to play, “I’ve got a source...”, be my guest. I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

And as far as McLaughlin being back, he was so clearly vague about “later in the season” that he might have been saying “day to day”.

Which is why I keep saying “expect December, if then”.

Campbell never fibs on injury reports. I still will take mine.

Your source previously said there was a chance for a late season return FYI.

I have no sources, but you never know with these things. These athletes tend to shock people with their healing timelines.

I thought Campbell hinted that Bacon had a chance to be back, but I really don't believe most of what he says in terms of injuries. Hopefully they will get at least a couple guys back for the final stretch.

He wants to be back and hadn’t ruled it out as a week or so ago. Never guarantees on injuries though. Everyone heals at different speeds.

I really thought the "period" was going to be the end of that sentence. Really caught me off guard there.

I'd hope these guys would pass on redshirting considering the position the team's in. They're good enough so I say keep rolling with them.

That’s the whole point. If a couple more guys get healthy, then they have to consider the position the team is in—which would be whether they’re needed or not.

It's crazy to think that McLaughlin probably won't have a starting job to return to once he is healthy. Ebel has been playing really well and will probably hold on to the starting job.

Not the same spot. Ebel has had Will all along. Technically Ellis is starting at Sam (McLaughlin’s spot)…and that because Brezina slid inside from Sam to Mike when Bacon was hurt.

When you toss Barnes (Mike) and Goodwin (outside) into the mix…I’ll be happy to let Heacock and Kratch sort out who goes where.
