I'm confused about something: Are Bears fans really expecting to win the Super Bowl this year? Because that would be delusional, but I guess I'm not in touch enough with my Bear fan friends to know.

Unless there are a bunch of Bears fans running around claiming the Super Bowl trophy already, that article and some of the sentaments here don't make much sense.

Special teams damn near lost them Sundays game.

i think their special teams have won a couple games more than they would have won. (ex. the arizona game) The good definitely outweighs the bad in my opinion

Just like Ohio State isn't that great of a team because the Big Ten blew this year and they gave up almost 40 points to Michigan?

The Bears are going to get thumped in the playoffs just like they have the last few times they've made it. OK, last year against Carolina was a close game but Steve Smith embarrassed the supposed #1 defense in the NFL.

I've seen teams that get by in the regular season with defensive and special teams touchdowns and those always seem to dry up in the playoffs, especially when there's a weak offense. You can win a Super Bowl with a great defense and a QB that doesn't make mistakes but the Bears only have a good defense and a QB that makes a lot of mistakes. Granted the NFC is HORRIBLE so they might win a game but I don't see any way they make it to the Super Bowl.

Before you accuse me of being a Bear hater I generally root for them over most of the other NFC teams and definitely over the Vikings and Packers. I just think they're way too mistake-prone on offense to win multiple playoff games.

um... no. Actually it's nothing like that. In fact, that's a ridiculous analogy.

I'm not expecting anything this year with the way the offense has been inconsistent. However, if the Bears have less than 3 turnovers in any game I would expect them to win. I'd say just having to win 2 games at home against the mediocre NFC isn't too tall of a task. Then when you get to the Super Bowl, it's just one game and anything can happen.

No, it's no more ridiculous than constantly bringing up close wins as a bad thing. A majority of games in the NFL come down to the 4th quarter so why should that be a downfall when looking at how the Bears have won games this year??

I respect that and don't expect anyone to think they're some awe-inspiring team that's going to blow everyone out of the water. I suppose if I was on the other side of the fence I would think the same thing. Just think everyone is really underestimating their chances.

Oh they're in full swing alright, the sad state of affairs that is the NFC makes it even worse as I can actually see the Bears getting all the way to the Superbowl myself - and then anything can happen.

The Bears twin brother, the Ravens have a much steeper mountain to climb.

I don't think any Bear fan in this thread has claimed a Super Bowl victory let alone a Super Bowl appearance. The article wonkadog linked has gone out of it's way to tear down a team that just clinched the #1 slot in the NFC bracket.

Any team can go on a run and win it all - see the Steelers last year. But, go ahead and call us delusional if it makes you feel better.

I guess a 10-0 record vs. the NFC just isn't good enough...:rolleyes5cz:

You are right...there is NO WAY the Bears make the Super Bowl.

I don't expect the Bears to win the Super Bowl but I think they have a great shot to play in it.

If they get there, it's anyone's game as shown in the past.

Ok, so I've settled down now and will admit that anything can happen in the playoffs. The article is just absolutely ridiculous and has no basis for his ripping on Smith and the Bears. Hopefully I will get to enjoy the Bears beating both Dallas & New Orleans in the upcoming weeks.

I don't have a lot of problems with the article. Tampa Bay and Arizona are BAD - a comeback by Manning or Farve is one thing, but Rattay?!?! Tim frick'n Rattay?

:biggrin9gp: If you get to come full circle, so do I!

New Orleans (aka America's darlings) - Beat Tampa Bay by 3 earlier this season. They also lost to a bad Washington team last week. Where are the articles bashing them? Oh wait, there are articles about how great they are...:rolleyes5cz:

Dallas (with Golden Boy Tony Romo) - Lost to Washington as well. Also got their clock cleaned by NO.

Personally, I think Dallas is the NFC's 2nd best team and as a Bears fan, I don't want to see them in the Playoffs. Besides them, bring on anyone.

There is so much parity in the NFL that any team could win the Super Bowl. The main problem with the article I have is ripping on the Bears for their schedule. What do you want Chicago to do, trade games with other teams to play "tougher" teams?

The Bears have played the schedule they have and have won 12 of 14 games-a great mark given the parity in the league. ANYTHING can happen in the NFL at any given moment-just look at the Steelers last year and how they won the championship.

Factor in the loss of two Pro Bowl starters on the D (Harris and Brown) and injuries to several other key personnel on the D (Vasher, Johnson, Tillman, Tank Johnson) and you are going to give up points-regardless of the team you are facing-this is professional football.

Given a first round bye to get bodies healthy and home field advantage throughout the playoffs-I'll gladly take the Bears
