In light of a few posters from UNI and Baylor making outlandish statements about their superior athletic departments at their respective schools, I beg to ask the question which of these schools is less important than the other. To be honest I could usually care less about either school except for the one time a year we play them but they seem to think they are the most important thing we talk about. Which school is more irrelevant to Iowa State? UNI? or Baylor?

I think these posts are just the shower before the storm. That is when the likes of Doane College and Mankato State fans will start posting their predictions for this upcoming season.

I don't understand why anyone in Iowa would care about Baylor since they are in Texas. UNI has had a lot of success lately in many sports and a lot of people here in Iowa follow them which I feel makes them more important.

There's a good unbiased opinion.:jimlad: Neither team is important enough to be talking about right now.

UNI means absolutely nothing to ISU. Winning the game only actually counts every 4 years even if we do win.

How you can say that UNI is more important than Baylor I have NO idea. I'd gladly lose to UNI and beat Baylor every single year and wouldn't even think twice about it if you gave me a choice.

I don't even care that they are an in-state "rival". So is Drake.

Baylor is in the division. Because Baylor is in the B12. Because a Baylor win will generally speaking mean more than a UNI win.

That rule was changed when we went to the 12 game schedule, so we can count 1 1-AA win each season now towards a bowl game.

And by the way, this one isn't even close. Baylor is by far more important to us. They are a conference foe and competition with them has a direct impact on our standings in the Big 12 in every sport.

Beating UNI isn't any bigger deal than any other non conference opponent. And honestly, I think the term rivalry doesn't even really apply here. If our athletics program was anywhere near where it should be, UNI would be nothing more than a speed bump.

I'd pay attention to the Trinidad & Tabago vs Equidor curling match before I gave a flip about Baylor.

UNI is an in-state school, I'd pay attention to them ahead of most other conference schools anyway.
