I can tell you to avoid Tuffy and Precision Auto.

Why do you say that? I took my car to Precision Auto for almost all of its routine maintenance in the last five years, and had nothing but good experiences with them. They've always been able to squeeze my car in when I forget to make an appointment and need to head out of town (which happened more than it should have), and they're helpful in answering my questions. I recommend them when people ask me where to go.

Hansen Sinclair is in my opinion the best in Ames! and they'll even pump your gas and wash your windows for free when you pull up! Also are HUGE ISU fans! will always take my vehicle's there

Have been taking all our cars to Midas on Lincoln Way for 8 years. Great guys. Cyclone fans. Last year, they even told me when it was time to dump a car rather than put any more money into it. I actually trust these guys!

Hansen Sinclair without doubt. Great folks. Raised in Ames. Loves the Cyclones Ames and ISU. Reasonable prices. Will go above and beyond to help you out and calls you if they find something else wrong and will give you costs over the phone.

I've second those that suggest the smaller scale shops. Avoid AAMCO at all costs. They had my car almost a month and after getting it back still had problems so I took it to a small town guy to fix it. Never will go there (AAMCO) or suggest anyone else do ever again.

I second your opinion about Precision Auto. I took my vehical there for all my mechanical needs and they we always great and got me in on short notices. I would recommend them to anyone.
