100/300/100 with a 500 dollar deductible for collision and comprehensive through State Farm. Considering dropping the collision and comprehensive as my car is getting older but hard to justify with how expensive used cars are right now and the relative shortage of new ones.

I feel like I should know this but I don’t. It’s a 500 dollar deductible with free glass. I think we’re with Progressive now. Maybe Nationwide. We have what Absolute Insurance Agency found for us.

Find an independent insurance agent and let them do the work for you.

250 deduct with State Farm. Just had $8,000 damage to the front clip of his car. We have an umbrella policy with them.

I have $250k/$500k on everything (**** is getting expensive), full coverage on the Palisade and motorcycle (could drop the bike to just liability but it's still worth about what I paid for it) and liability on the 2 beaters.

Get quotes. Every time I think about raising our deductible or dropping full coverage I am surprised at how little difference there is in premium.

For liability limits, 100/300/100 seems to be the standard for most major companies. If you are young and broke, that’s fine. If you have some assets that you don’t want to risk losing (house, savings, etc), an umbrella liability policy, in my experience, has been the best way to supplement.

I run $1000 deductibles on my stuff. Liability I'm at 500k with another umbrella sitting over it. Lawsuits get crazy, especially when a business or two is included in there. I drop the comp/collision when the vehicles get in that 7500 value area. For a 1000 deductible (Farm Bureau) on comp and collision versus just straight liability is about 350/year. Claims wise I have only had one claim that would be on my record and that was for a pickup that was stolen from me, no accidents.

For those wondering, I learned this lesson with a rental property. One act of God in 3-5 years is forgivin, two acts of God in that time period raises your premium. So when they say acts of God do not raise your premium it is half truth.

Don't cut corners on liability insurance. I am with Nationwide & do everything online or on the phone. Great service. I live in Ankeny. Here is what I have:
2017 RAV4 Hybrid- 500M BI, PD, Uninsured Motorist, Underinsured Motorist. 10M MP, 1M DED comp & collision $363.15/6 Months.
$1,000,000 Umbrella $109.40/Year. Very competitive property insurance rates.
I also have a great ID Theft policy thru Zander Insurance $145/Year.

Figured there’s lots of insurance knowledge here given Des Moines.
Rates are pretty freaking high out here.

We increased ours 10+ years ago after my husband was rear ended. Although the other person was liable, it opened our eyes as to how quickly those medical costs add up.

100/300/100 with a Milly umbrella. Some companies will force the higher underying coverage say 500 UM/UIM to get the umbrella . Get the umbrella

Yeah, that was the definitely part of the thought behind the umbrella.

100/300/100 is no longer sufficient.

Industry standard is 250/500/250 at this point.

If you've got anything less than a $500 deductible, you're throwing money away.

Thanks for the reminder, I need to check mine. I have an agent and they've already saved me a bunch on the motorhome insurance.
