Probably a question for another thread, but how many salaried people out here actually take their lunch? In all my time in the corporate world (14 years now good god I'm getting old) I've never really taken a "lunch" unless it's been going somewhere with my team. 98% of the time I work through it.

I do -- but only because I usually use it for my workout. WIthout that, I probably wouldn't leave my desk. And my body and brain would hate me for that.

Your just a pup yet. Try 35 years and get back to me. ;) I was corporate for 14 years in ag so spring, summer, and fall; 3/4 of the time was pack your own lunch and eat in the field. Last 9 years I've worked from home so I just go upstairs to the kitchen.

I am part of a 6am tennis group that plays 3-4 times a week, best thing I’ve ever done. I am significantly more focused and energized after a 800 calorie cardio workout. The days I go to work without that first I have some form of brain fog and hate it. Once you do it a couple weeks straight getting up at 5:15 am and being active at 6am is nothing.

For lifting weights I am definitely “stronger” if I workout in the PM but still prefer early AM for the mental benefits.

5 AM workout guy here. Physically it's nice. But MENTALLY it's an absolute gamechanger. I feel so much better and sharper thoughout the whole day.
This. Have done the 5:00 am workouts for 45+ years. Really sets the stage for a good day. Was great when the kids were young as I didn't miss out on interacting with them after school. I feel guilty when I miss.

I recently switched hours at work and now don't get off until around 5:30. I used to get off at 3:30 and get my workout in. Howerver, with the new schedule I don't want to workout that late. So today I did my first morning workout. My muscles were not ready for this. I am 51 years old so it takes me a little bit longer to get going in the morning. Anyone else work out in the morning. Any prep ideas. How do you just wake up and start working out and a cold body?

I am almost 44 and I work out at 5:00 am and play basketball at 5:30.

I like to start out with something full body but low impact like rows. Just sort of loosens everything up.

Up at 5:15am on Tuesday- Friday. Walk 1.5 miles unless raining. Do some light dynamic stretching. 25 minute strength training workout. In the shower no later than 6:30am. Out the door by 7:15am.

I sleep a bit later on Monday - I find those days harder to get up. Up at 5:30am and just a walk.

I do cardio in the evenings after work two times per week and once on the weekend.

Unless we have a team function I always eat at my desk as quickly as possible.

I almost always pack my lunch and usually eat at my desk. Sometimes, I will go sit outside for some fresh air. I starting bringing my lunch a few years ago for health reasons and, as an added benefit, it also saves me quite a bit of money.

This also might be its own thread but wondering what others have for a daily commute. I drive about 114 miles per day. Considering an upgrade from my 2018 Accord to a new AWD hybrid Camry. At least I was before all of this stuff with tariffs.

I WFH so 0 miles here but it's about 10 miles to kids daycare, so does that count?

I just can’t consistently wake up that early to do it and my schedule is so crazy in the morning due to working in multiple timezones.

I’m just happy to work out consistently in general these days.

Question for you and others: what do people do who can’t shower before going back to work?

I want to start getting some walks in during the day. I have a very flexible schedule so leaving for 30-60 minutes for a walk is no big deal.

I suspect in the summer I’ll get sweaty and don’t have access to a shower. Do people just freshen the deodorant and go back to work?

I don't really sweat during my workouts...I don't really do cardio because like...I'm a man. I lift weights. If I do incline walk the treadmill during a non lift day I break a little sweat but I just try and wash up a little in the sink. I'd throw a body spray or something in your bag and hit that if need be.

As for the schedule I always try and get to work a little before my boss and most coworkers...feels like it gives me a little leeway with my lunch hour...but either way if you are on salary either just come in a little early or stay a little later.

Right. Schedule is not the problem, it’s the sweating part. I’m just talking about walking so hopefully not too sweaty. Just want to get some activity in on non-lifting days since I’m at a desk job.

Seems like body spray is the way to go. Or just lean into it and do all my calls in workout clothes.

I get up at 4:15 each morning to do it. Wake up, have my coffee (give myself something I enjoy immediately), meditate, and then take the dog out. It's difficult some days, but that's anything and everything.

My advice, recognize that it's going to suck some days, remain consistent, and trust that your body is going to adapt. We don't get to pick when we get the reward, just that we do the work.

Last piece of advice, eat clean later in the day. I have come to recognize that it messes up my sleep bad when I eat poorly and it has helped me with my waking ability a lot simply by fixing this.

I've read that morning workouts have a lot of benefits for the rest of the work day, but I just can't do it. I normally workout around 8 or 9 PM.

Yeah don’t sweat when you lift? You use the rubber coated dumbbells?

Middle of summer and the gym is running a little warm...I'll sweat a little. But certainly not like some of these dudes just pouring sweat out on the Stairmaster or treadmill.
