I agree. And because one was "just" a coach shouldn't be a minor technicality. If he actually did know what was going on with his "licensed" buddy....then the consequences should apply across the board. Unless the state has no jurisdiction on those without a license. Then I guess it would be up to the family and I know if it was me......even if my daughter was considered the local tramp

.....he's going up state hand in hand with his friend.
I am not saying what the coach did was right nor a minor technicality, I am just saying he was convicted and then it was over turned by the SC of Iowa because the law only said teachers, and did not include coaches, it have since been amended.

Here is a link to the case.

And this is why I hate typing instead of talking. I was not implying you were thinking that, I was just conveying my thoughts if that was why individual who happened to be "just" a coach wasn't held to the same standard. And after reading your link.....that is exactly what I feared. He wasn't licensed by the state hence he cannot be held accountable by the state. I am glad to hear it has since been amended because that's the worst kind of all the kind of BS the state can shovel.

Why couldn't he be arrested? He was 36 and banging a 16 year old. Isn't that illegal? If not then WTF???

Under the amended law he would have been, which I am sure states "any school personal", so that could be anyone from the certified staff, to coaches, secretaries, non certified, to the janitors and bus drivers.

When the case was reversed the law said ONLY licensed teachers, therefore he did not qualify under that law. The way the Iowa law reads if she is 16 and he is not considered to be position of authority, it would be legal.

I believe Topher is short for Christopher if the person doesn't want to go by Chris. I suppose it can stand by itself too. Personally I find it weird.

Only other time I've heard the name is with Topher Grace. His given name is Christopher.

It says that this investigation was due to incidents in 2020 - so she would have been 21 or younger. I wonder how old the minor involved was.

Doesn't really matter. 16 is the age of consent, so under that it's illegal, over that it's not assuming there was consent.

It doesn't matter legally because she was charged under her status as a school employee so the age doesn't matter for the charge. But it could be a 17 year old and a 21 year old here - or it could be a lot worse. Just curious.

It says he told her he was 17 and a junior, and she said close enough.

I missed the charge as a school employee so fair point. I'll move along now.

Iowa Law is really interesting. A law came out around 2012 saying that if you are an employee of the district at any capacity, you can not date/talk/have any romantic relationships with any students in said district, which makes sense…

The controversial part is if you are a Sophomore when you start dating a Freshman and make it for three years, then decide to go back your first year of college to help as an assistant football coach, you have to make the choice between your Senior significant other or coaching despite a prior legal relationship.
