We live in a split foyer and, like most homes, we have a large discrepancy between the basement temp and the 1st floor temp (around 4-5 degrees, I'd guess).

I placed a large fan at the bottom of the basement steps and pointed it upward toward the entryway. I run it most of the daytime and it really seems to help even out the upstairs and downstairs temp.

I work outside during the days. Anything under 76 almost puts me in shock when I go home.
Im in the same boat. I almost think it's worse for my body in July and August to come home to anything less than 70. I finally turned mine on the other day for the year and was absolutely freezing at 73. If it wasn't for the humidity I almost think I could have held off another month. It's been swampy as hell here the last few weeks.

74. Split level home; downstairs a freezer, upstairs a sweat shop
Keep the fan on. We have a two story and open more registers upstairs and close some downstairs In the summer. Reverse in the winter. Works well to normalize the temp between the two levels.

We keep the house 75 day and 71 night in summer. Winter 71 day and 68 night in winter.

The levels of cheap ba$tard I go to maxing out my time of use scale is impressive or pathetic depending on one's point of view.

When electricity is practically free we are going ice box, when it's $0.21 KWH we are going sweat box with ceiling fans if we have to for a few hours.
Sounds like one if those peak use plans that is pretty common in TX didn't realize Ca used it also.

Finally broke down this week to flip the AC on. But that has created the annual household discussion around what’s the right temperature to set day and night. Need CF to crowd source my thermostat settings for me.
I set it at 76 when I use the air conditioner. I set it at 72 when the furnace is on over the winter. Temperate climate for me.

Like BC I subscribe to the policy of trying to acclimate to the outside conditions. We try to use natural morning and overnight cooling where possible. When we run the air it is usually at 78 with the ceiling fan (dining room and upstairs bedrooms have ceiling fans) and/or an auxilary fan in most rooms. I also run a dehumidifier on my lowest level (4 level split) to try to keep the humidity at or below 50%. We eat dinner on the deck a lot during the summer and even some weekend breakfast/brunches/lunches - that is until the skeeters get bad.

In the winter it is usually 68-70 during the day with 64 at night.
