I mean that local reporter is also 5 years detached from Campbell being there.

Would he have taken that call from MIchigan as a toledo coach? Probably. Would he take it now, having brought Iowa State to where it is? Maybe, but i think the odds of that are at least decreased.

True. But he might still have contact with the young Ohio guys on staff. I don’t think he probably has contact with Campbell, but I bet all of those assistant types have contact with people out there.

The main thing that worries me if/when Campbell leaves is that he'll probably want to bring his staff with him to the extent possible. Hypothetically, would we try to throw money at Manning or Heacock to stay and be the head guy? Go after Candle if that fails?
No way. Iowa State should NEVER hire a coach that needs HC OJT.

Bingo, look at how the Chizik and Rhoads hires turned out for us. Campbell has brought this program to the level now where if he were to leave (let's hope not anytime soon) we should be able to attract a quality coach with previous power 5 HC experience.

Candle is a big no.

I would actually go back to the MAC again. Preferably an Ohio team. They have great football teachers come out of that conference (especially from the Ohio schools), plus the recruiting inroads don't hurt either!

Right. Like Les Miles

:jimlad:

Well to be fair Kansas FB is basically like signing your own death certificate in the coaching circles. Unless they start cheating like their basketball program does I'm not sure even Saban could turn that program into a consistent winner. Miles is also 67 and has a national title on his resume so don't think he probably cares at this point if he fails at KU as he's going to collect his last paycheck and enjoy retirement next I bet.

Go after Hartline. I’m so ******* over the “needs HC experience” thing.

Over on Inside 40 Acres they are talking about Campbell a lot. A lot of debating. The negative against him in their minds is he can't beat his rival, plays down to non power 5s, and can't beat any non conference P5s. And they are worried if he can recruit at an elite level. The positives is they think he can fix their entitled culture.

Objectively, these are all fair critiques. There is a big difference in building from the basement like ISU and building from an entitled culture like Michigan. Campbell may want that challenge, or he may want to continue to reap the rewards of what he has built here over the past several years.

No one knows that except for Campbell, his wife, and maybe Jamie Pollard and some close friends. And I'm betting nothing gets out amongst that group. So anyone saying otherwise is liking just guessing (including all of us...and definitely the national people).

I think a lot of people don’t realize or appreciate the hard work it takes to build the culture that is so strong within that locker room.

If CMC were going to leave at some point I don't see it being after this season. This team is setup real nice for 2021 - a team he and his staff built from the ground up - and would think if you know what makes him tick he would want to hang around to see if this team could contend for the CFP given we tentative only lose the following assuming no pro defections or seniors coming back:

TE: Allen and Soehner
RB: Nwangwu
WR: Akers
OL: Foster
Both kickers Rivera and Assalley
DL: both Baileys and Uwazurike
LB: Hummel
Secondary: White and Eisworth

There is A LOT of depth on this roster that it has become "next man in" lately when we have an injury so what job out there currently would be more rewarding than what he has already built? I've said it before, I see a lot of the same traits that motivate Pollard in CMC too and I feel comfortable that he's going to hang around and finish what he started here. If for some chance he did leave can you imagine just how juicy this job would look to coaches knowing they could potentially be taking over a team that could potentially be a preseason top 10 if we finish out strong this year?

I don't care what the pay is, a coach would be foolish to leave a potential top 10 team (unless it is maybe a transition to a top 5 team). If you are in the top 10, you are in spot 1a to position yourself for the CFP / and perhaps dark horse for the NC.

Can anyone name a head coach that leaves a top 10 power 5 team for another college job? Saban left MSU before their bowl when they were on the verge of the top 10. I’m sure there are some, but usually the coaches leaving highly ranked teams are leaving G5. Otherwise the guys leaving from one P5 to another is either guys that get to 8-9 wins at teams that aren’t traditionally good. They probably think they’ve caught lightning in a bottle and probably won’t sustain success and/or they think there are limits to the job that keeps them from competing for conference titles. Those don’t describe Campbell’s situation.

If ISU is hiring a coach with P5 HC experience it’s because they weren’t successful or on the downside of their career. Name a P5 head coach that has career upside that would realistically come to ISU.

We literally just joined the Cyclone Gridiron Club. This was many years overdue. Want Campbell to stay? $100 a year is the least you can do.
I'm considering joining, myself. I'm trying to figure out if its better to give to the Gridiron Club or the Cyclone Club. I'm not clear on what "non-budgeted football expenses" are.

Either one is probably good.

But Pollard was asked about it last night and said that they need everyone to renew their Cyclone Club donation in 2021. And if you had football tickets, consider donating the refund for the 2 games with no fans. That's a pretty painless thing to do.

Just tried to make a Cyclone Club account and it's experiencing technical difficulties. I'm guessing the day they released the Big 12 Championship tickets is probably a poor day to do this... or maybe tons of people are making accounts right now! We can hope.

It benefits only the football program. Here is what I pulled from the website.
Use of Funds
The Cyclone Gridiron Club funds go directly to the Iowa State University football program. From the white helmets worn during the Liberty Bowl, to the gray uniforms worn throughout the 2017 season, the CGC has impacted the program.
