I figure this will get some play but why are the Ankeny Police so BADGE HEAVY! First off, this does NOT pertain to me but Someone close to me whom I trust. The Ankeny Police seen more content to hone their skills on two areas rather then protect the Community. The two areas are "Window Tinting" and License plates (front). Tell me, Where is the "COMPELLING" state interest in these matters? It certainly can't be a safety issue. Oh, I got it, Its a easy mark, easy money, and they don't put themselves in peril going after these areas like following up a robbery, chasing druggies or domestic disputes. When seconds count COPS are only minutes away...... giving someone a BS ticket because his windows are too dark or he has no front license plate. The ONLY legal plate on your car is the one with the sticker on it. Try switching them around and you'll receive a ticket for that. As long as one can prove ownership and has a rear plate properly stickered that should suffice. Window tinting? Who cares. Do any of you really care if the guy next to you has dark windows? Truth is, many COP cars have the same tinting, some as dark but I am sure they are not receiving tickets. How about sun-glasses. IF the police contend that they wanna see your eyes..... then I want to see theirs.
Yesterday, A vehicle was pulled over for speeding. The vehicle travelled a little ways and was in a school zone PICKING UP HIS 5 year old. After handing the officer his license he told the officer he had to watch for his kid. The officer was in the patrol car I am sure doing a wants and warrants while the gentleman waited outside for his kid to show up. When his son approached he put him in the car along with his daughter and sea tbelted him in. It was at this time he noticed the officer out of his car "TRIANGULATING" him with his hand on his revolver!!! When asked why he was acting like that and putting him is a very uncomfortable position the officer replied quote "I thought you were going to run!!!"
He told the officer... " You have my license, I live 1 mile away, you have my plate number, a description of my car, I have my two children in my car with me." Where the hell am I going to go? Then you put your hand on your weapon for what reason..... are you willing to SHOOT someone for SPEEDING? Is it worth someones life to be killed in front of his children for speeding when you already have all the info you need for a proper arrest if necessary?
Attempting to pull a handgun or be ready to at a elementary school in ANKENY is unacceptable to me. Talk about putting all of us in danger, and poor decision making.
I am sure you will hear more about this incident as the person involved feels the Officer in question acted irresponsibly and chose a poor decision making process which is first and foremost the most important attribute in LAW enforcement.
Ankeny should be ashamed of this officers conduct and it should NOT be condoned. BTW, He has been a Officer since 2007. Talk about a Rambo. Real tough cop, Strapping leather against a father and his two kids........ Absolutely shameful!!!!!
