LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The tension between movie-star exes Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger erupted when an angry phone message from Baldwin to his daughter was made public.
The recording was published Thursday by celebrity news site TMZ.com, which said the call was placed on April 11.

On the recording, Baldwin can be heard admonishing his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig." (Watch for the rest of what Baldwin said during his rant )

"You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being," he says, apparently upset that she did not answer her phone for a planned call.

"I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the *** who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone."

He goes on to say that he plans to fly from New York to Los Angeles "for the day just to straighten you out on this issue."

Baldwin's spokesman said in a statement Thursday that, "in the best interest of the child," the 49-year-old actor "will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing ... keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order.

"The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order," he continued. "Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years."

"The voice mail speaks for itself," Basinger's spokeswoman said.

Calls to Basinger's and Baldwin's attorneys were not returned.

Baldwin and Basinger, 53, were married in 1993. They have been involved in prolonged legal disputes over custody and other issues since she filed for divorce in 2001, which was granted in 2002. The couple's differences have been aired several times in public.

Basinger was charged with contempt of court in October for violating terms of a 2004 custody agreement. A motion by her lawyers to dismiss the charges was denied Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The next hearing on visitation issues is scheduled for May 4.

No one should use anything that Alex Baldwin does as an example of the proper way to behave. The same can be said for most Hollywood personalities, but he is worse than most.

It is disheartening to me that so many people look to these Hollywood types as opinion leaders.

I hope the reverend Jackson and Sharpton come to the rescue of this child and chastise Alex for what he said.

We used verbal violence against that child.

Oh good, I thought this tread was going to tell me how I shouldn't be playing Tom Clancy games anymore. Or that Halo is corrupting my mind, nice to see that it is only Alec Baldwin that is corrupting our minds.

I heard this on the Herd about 10 minutes ago. That guy is a jack-off, but we already knew that. Yet another example of why we shouldnt look to Hollyweird for anything other than entertainment.

This kind of stuff should not be getting out to the public. I'm sure there is plenty of dirty laundry on both sides of the fence on this one. Kim is no angel either...

I am a big believer that Denis Leary's "No Cure For Cancer" show is the answer to so many of life's biggest questions. This is another good example...

"Rosanne Barr came from a dysfunctional family - '...not Roseanne, she seems so normal to me...' - the Jackson's were dysfunctional - '...NOT THE JACKSONS!!!' - these people give each other new heads for Christmas, for goodness sake!"

Correct.

Divorce turn parents into ugly people sometimes. It's no excuse, because many divorced parents are able to remain sane for the sake of their children (and themselves too) - but some just can't do it. I know first hand.

Children are then the ones most affected by this. They lash out in different ways - venting their pain and frustration. Or they'll do inappropriate things just to get attention from their parents that can't stop obsessing over hating one another. Ugh.

Ahh yes, airing your dirty laundry nationally for all to see and hear. I don't feel sorry anybody. The father for being an absolute jerk, the mother and lawyer for releasing it to the public against court order just so everyone will hate him in the court of public opinion, or the daughter for keeping the phone message in the first place. How sad and dysfunctional, they all don't like each other.
