American Pickers and Pawn Stars

Anyone else hooked on these shows?

Gotta love a couple of Iowa boys making good on American Pickers!

And Chumlee...what else is left to say?!

American Pickers is a well-done show. I don't like Pawn Stars so much. It is too "scripted". Nobody in the entire world is as dumb as Chumlee is made out to be. The humor is too predictable. (Such as when they bought a ball-and-chain, and I KNEW 10 minutes before it happened that Chumlee would break something with it. Sure enough, he did). Nevertheless, the show is very informative about history and such.

Love Pawn Stars. At first wasn't huge on Pickers cause the skinny guy kinda bugged me but it grew on me and can't stop watching either of them when they are on.

Love both of those shows. Pawn Stars amazes me with the stuff they get in there, especially all 1800's items.

I am still addicted to Pawn Stars, but I agree that pretty much everyone besides Rick seems really scripted. It's always interesting to see people's reactions. I haven't seen a ton of American Pickers, but find it fascinating that they're from Iowa.

That's what amazes me, too - people just have this stuff sitting around? That's insane.

I always wonder about some of these items, too, and how they're going to resell them. I have to think that they have auctions they frequent?

For those that think Pawn Stars is a bit scripted/cheesy, here's what you need to do.

DVR them and start watching at the 15 minute mark, that way you get all the professional appraisal information and see the items that were refurbished.

American Pickers is a cool show. It has its scripted parts as well, but nothing close to how Pawn Stars plays out.

The skinny dude has the most annoying laugh in the history of TV, but I've noticed they've edited that out lately. So now they both come off as good Iowa boys that are only slightly predatory.

Both fun shows to watch back-to-back.

the real question is, why is Pawn Stars presented in HD? I love that show, but there is absolutely no need for me to see any of the main characters in glorious 1080p.

That's just amazing. It's so amazing that people pack away this stuff, and then it's also amazing that people are willing to part with some of these items. That makes sense about the auctions - I always wondered if they didn't have to do that. I guess the same question probably applies for local pawn stores - do they keep stuff in-stock, or put it up on auction? I guess I've never been in one.

I like them both also, can't believe some of the stuff Mike and Frank run across. How about the guy that had all those old cars in his basement. Some of these people are sitting on a fortune.

I love both of those shows. I fast forward though some of Pawn Stars and just watch the parts where they are appraising things.

We have never worked with any of the local pawn shops, although I know at least one of them does occasionally sell some jewelry at auction. The rest of them seem to keep quite a bit of inventory.

I'll have to ask the hubby to start exploring those opportunities...LOL!

Believe it or not, in addition to the really old items, 50's & 60's toys are really hot right now...we recently sold some Marx & GI Joe figures (with boxes) for several hundred dollars each!

Pawn Stars had me wanting to own a pawn shop. Then I realized a shop in east dsm probably wouldn't be the same as the show.

Love Pawn Stars, although the haggling makes me a bit uncomfortable sometimes. Especailly when you can tell it's someone that really needs money and gets talked into selling something for 1/3rd of its value.

traveling to El Vegas tomorrow from our humble abode here in Anthem, AZ. Will be sure to name drop the CloneFanatic family to Rick and the Ole' Man. Can't help but think what they would offer me for my signed Suns Hornacek jersey...? Any bargaining tips? I am pondering whether or not to bring it with me... :biggrin:
