Let's review: How is a college PARTY with hundreds of guests even remotely comparable to bringing home enough beer for your own consumption on a weekend to get falling down drunk two days in a row with enough left over to give your friends a beer or two? I even asked the first guy if he was having friends over. Did I say I drank ALL that beer at the college party? Did I even say I drank ANY of it?

Then you add onto the fact that this was 30-plus years ago, when what DWI laws they had were never enforced like they are today and over consumption of alcohol was a wink and a nod that did not carry much, if any, social stigma like it does today. If you were pulled over drunk back in those days, the cops would escort you home, or send you on your way, more likely than not, unless you were just literally passed out at the wheel with the car running in the middle of an intersection.

Judging? Don't we all judge? Aren't you judging me by this post? Bit of a double standard, wouldn't you say?

I am willing to guess that some if not the majority of the people at your party(s) had more than 6 beers in one day, you indicated on Friday that this is excessive. Seems odd to me that you would associate with people who had obvoius alcohol issues given your family history.

As for your consumption, I apologize if I made an incorrect assumption in thinking that since you referenced 8-9 kegs and "swamp water" in your memories about what you missed from your time at ISU, that you did actually consume some of said alcohol.

As for the DUI load that you are selling, it is BS- As someone else stated, just because the rules are more strictly enforced now doesnt mean that it was any better to drive while drunk then than it is now. (Actually that reminds me of another thing that I miss, Drunk walks home from Bars/parties. This was often times when all of the next days best stories occured. )

Look- I'm all for having a good time and I probably should have left your post alone. I just thought that it was ironic that there was such a heated debate over the consumption of booze on Friday that was (no offense) started with your apparent disapproval of the quantity that another poster was drinking. Then on Monday drinking and parties are your fondest memories of ISU.

I appologize again to you and to the rest of the posters for the distraction of what is an interesting thread.

I mentioned this in my reply to BiPolarCy but I miss:

Drunk walks home from Bars/Parties- these always resulted in the best stories the next morning

Being able to walk home from almost anywhere in ames so no need to worry about staying sober enough to drive or paying for a stupid taxi.

So you are saying that everyone involved in this story has alchohol issues, based on your take over of the Friday beer thread with your judgement of people I sir think that you need to seek help! You were judging someone who bought a few cases of beer for the weekend but you can have 8-9 KEGS. Sounds like a double standard

good one... if i was out drinking at the bar or summer parties there were times i had more than two full bottles of hard liquor and some beers on my own... lots of nights i had well over 30 drinks... the only thing i drink now is an occasional coors light. but at ISU!!! those were the days. so id say most everyone i knew in college had an alcohol issue. i watched my roomate down a bottle of gin, and a bottle of vodka in less then 10 minutes...

There were definitely times, though, when I was happy my sorority house was only 2 blocks from Campustown.

Add: waking up and meandering down to the kitchen to find the other girls who had just woken up and sharing/piecing together what had happened the previous night.

I said that? Really? I think you need to review the thread.

I miss People's and Lumpy's the most. I also miss winning basketball. Now that GMac is gone and Freddie in....I see some winning coming back to Ames.

i'm going to stay out of your little tiff... but this part is pretty BS.. just because it wasn't enforced as much, doesn't make drunk driving any better.

And I didn't say it did. I said there wasn't the stigma attached to it that there is now.

The Gyro Stand.

Oh, and everything else that comes with the college life and lack of responsibility.... partying hard on weeknights, college women, taking personal days whenever you want, never going to class on Fridays for years, not having to wake up early every day, etc.

thats the grocery list for the afternoon. can't wait to get out on the deck again!
You having people over? Who besides a raging alcoholic buys that much beer on the weekend if they aren't having a gathering of some sort? If all that beer is just for you and the little lady, to me, this is excessive.

And to add to the beer thread, I had a Fat Tire the other day. First time ever. Man, it was tasty. I think I've found a new favorite beer.

Sorry I dont know how to link but if you look at the above post you in fact say that what this person is planning to purchase/consume is excessive.

I tried to link back to the exact post but not sure if it worked so I copied and pasted

FACs with the Blue Band on the MU patio. My buddies and I were rock climbers, and we'd scale the wall up from the sidewalk to keep from paying. A guy on my dorm floor tended bar, and he was always good for a handful of beer tickets. Good times.

How does this prove that I said consuming six beers a day is excessive? It doesn't because someone else said that.
