Either way Brogdon is going to get his. I think Matt with be on Perrantes. Niang will be on Gill. After those 3 guys UVA doesn't really have another good scorer.

Niang on Gill might spell foul trouble for Georges, though I do feel like he does well at post defense, and I don't think Gill is all that comfortable outside (just looked, 2-2 on the year from three). Perrantes would be nice to shut down, and I agree, Brogdon will get his. Just need to keep Brogdon and Gill under control without fouling (somehow).

ALR was a very good defensive team. I'm not sure what their AdjD was going into the game but I know it was pretty good. Obviously not anywhere on the same level as Virginia but what ISU did against ALR was still impressive.
ALR was 89th in AdjO and 34th in AdjD. Virginia is 6th and 4th. Again, I will be cheering for ISU to pull it off. If they make it to the Elite Eight it will certainly be well earned. Virginia is nasty.

I don't know what ALR was for AdjD going into the ISU game, I'm assuming it took a little hit after that game. Like I said, they are not on the same level as Virginia defensively but they were still very good on that end.

The numbers are crazy for Virginia. Their ability to play great defense, and slow the game down, while still being extremely efficient on offense is amazing.

That said, they were better on defense and better rebounding the past two seasons, but still lost in the sweet sixteen.

If nothing else this should be a great game. #1 Offense and #1 Defense remaining in the tournament, something has to break here. And so far, great offensive teams have been fairing better than great defensive teams...

Virginia is a very good and solid squad, but they do play a style that can lead to being upset. The play such a controlled style and slow pace that they don't create a lot of seperation in scoring even if they are dominating most of the game thus if it they hit a cold shooting slump they can over taken.

The step up in talent from Ark-LR is large compaired to UVa, but it was a good tune up game for the team. Little Rock tried to slow it down and force ISU to play in the half court, execute and shoot from outside. I believe ISU only scored 2 fast break points in the first half but still scored 40 by playing under control and executing. If they can repeat that type of gameplan and get above 70pts I like ISU's chances to move on.

I couldn't agree more. Let the heavyweight wagering crowd and network pundits worry about KenPom and AdjD issues! These squads are both battle-tested from a season spent waging warfare in excellent conferences. ISU has lost a bunch of close games to title-contenders, with the pertinent point being we've been in every game down to the wire. The fates might or might not smile upon us, but our squad won't be in awe of mighty UVA and this should be a great game! I feel good about this one...

Virginia is good, no doubt. But we are also. We may be an underdog in Vegas, but this will not be an upset if ISU wins. We've defeated and played tough teams who are just as good if not better then UVA.

One more thing. I don't give a flying floosy how great their defense is. They CANNOT defend Georges one on one. They will have to help, and help leaves someone open.

Didnt this many ACC teams make it this far one time but then they all lost in the sweet 16 or something? Things can change real fast. Dont forget the ACC nearly has twice as many teams at the Big 12

I think they had six in Sweet 16 last year too?

Just saw this note from Gary Parrish's 16 thing you need to know article, thought it was an appropriate link to back up your post...

"12. OFFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ten of the nation's 12 most-efficient offenses belong to teams still playing in this NCAA Tournament, whereas only six of the nation's 12 most-efficient defenses belong to teams still playing. In other words, it's great to be great on both ends of the court. But, it seems, it's more important to be great on the offensive end of the court.

The best offensive team still playing is Iowa State.
The worst is Wisconsin.

The best defensive team still playing is Virginia.
The worst is Notre Dame."

Unfortunately for us, Virginia is also an extremely efficient offensive team. They are behind us, Duke, and UNC in offensive efficiency, so they can get it done on both sides of the ball. It's not like they are Wisconsin or Cuse on offense :)

That being said I like ISU in this matchup if they keep playing well in the half court like they have the past few games. Should be a close game and it'll come down to ISU staying out of foul trouble and hitting shots.

Will be an interesting match up. Brogdon is terrific and I'm sure UVA feels comfortable with him on Niang even giving up the size but I would still expect Niang to get his. I'd expect UVA to try to send double teams at him

First, welcome aboard. Second, Brogdon will have to be amazing to handle Georges one on one. If he is handling Georges out top well, Georges will take him down low. Every team has tried to handle him with help and he is still scoring at a high rate. Brogdon is undoubtedly a great defender, but Georges will still get his in that scenario.

Agreed, as a UVA fan I would have to believe Wilkins or Brogdon will most likely be on Niang to start. Should be an excellent battle between two solid teams.
