All In Or Opt Out

All we heard before the game was that Rose was injured and couldn't go. All they could say during the game was that Rose opted out. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

It's not a bad look, it is a guy (or a couple of guys if the announcers are right which I doubt since they weren't right all night) who carried this team for their whole college career protecting their pro career. It's pretty petty to bad mouth them after all they have done for this program.

Agreed.

I don't know what the official reason is but I watched him drag himself off the field toward the end of the season. I am glad he can get healed up and get set to get his payday.

I am going to say I support Rose in whatever the driver for his decision considering what he has invested into this program during his career. Same goes for Breece and any other players that had to make the hard decision.

1 player "sat", Breece Hall. Newell and Rose were hurt. Hutchinson was recovering from surgery and still made a phenomenal catch. If you had listened to Walters and Heft on the pregame, you would have heard that. ESPN made it sound like they were sitting for personal reasons. It was more fair and accurate reporting by the company that tried to dissolve the Big XII.

Protecting their pro career
is putting themselves above the team.

This thread doesn't exist had we won.

No one likes the system but it makes sense for the players to opt out with so much on the line in the next phase of their career.

I respect the kids decision but what has changed to make this all of the sudden a big deal? There is nothing different about the bowl games, the draft etc...except this weird perception that it all doesn't matter. If this game didn't matter, honestly, none did after we were eliminated for the conference championship. What makes this game any different than the OU or TCU games?

The cfp didn't change anything for bowls like the one we just played in, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 years ago, the exact same thing would have been on the line. Why didn't we see opt outs then?

You’re going to find out the answer going forward if they don’t expand the playoff.

I agree, the expanded playoff won't matter though, it'll just keep guys from opting out of the 12 programs instead of 4. The only thing that will get kids to play now is money. Bowl sponsors paying the kids to play in some sort of NIL situation.

The other ugly thing we haven't seen yet is what happens when NIL sponsors start calling the shots on who plays and who opts out.

It was mentioned several times last night that Clemson had no players opt out of the game, how many pros do they have on their roster?

Bad look for a 5 star culture team to have key players sit, they put themselves above the team.

It’s a calculated move. CMC can’t take the chance of Breece Hall tearing an acl while he’s sitting there making 3.5 million a year? The program would take a huge hit.

Clemson and Dabo are in a different situation.

You can tear a knee preparing for the combine. There is value to the program in hearing David Montgomery from ISU on Sundays but let's not forget the games that lead to that outcome.

I guess we should only practice in bubble wrap.

And I do think it makes a difference that it's a bowl game; they are glorified exhibition games. That doesn't mean they can't be fun or meaningful; I was disappointed last night and really enjoyed the fiesta bowl win last year. But they aren't regular season games or the playoffs. So a player missing a bowl game for whatever reason is different than them choosing to not finish out the regular season

How? What made this game any less important than UNLV?

It still counts on our overall record, and I'd argue that most people can actually remember bowl games vs. some random non-con game years ago.

Protecting their pro career is putting themselves above the team.

I think what you meant to say is that protecting their pro career is putting them above your wanting to feel all warm and fuzzy because your team won it's bowl game.

Poll the team and ask them what they think they should have done and then get back to us - I mean - if you want to play the 'team' aspect of it.
