Because those aren’t exhibition games?
But eventually, aren't they only to decide what exhibition game you'll play in?

Why not quit earlier in the season if you're worried about getting injured? We had no shot at a conference title prior to the Oklahoma game.
Protecting their pro career is putting themselves above the team.

What changed? More and more players are realizing the nature of what college football is. It's a means to an end for these guys who see themselves playing professionally. And when they feel that it can no longer help them, they're choosing to step away. It doesn't matter if the fans, or the school, or the other players agree with them.I respect the kids decision but what has changed to make this all of the sudden a big deal? There is nothing different about the bowl games, the draft etc...except this weird perception that it all doesn't matter. If this game didn't matter, honestly, none did after we were eliminated for the conference championship. What makes this game any different than the OU or TCU games?
The cfp didn't change anything for bowls like the one we just played in, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 years ago, the exact same thing would have been on the line. Why didn't we see opt outs then?
totally agree. Is it to early to start a 2021 clonies thread? It might be what CF needs today.I officially nominate this for a "Sneak in a Bad Take Before the Year is Over" 2021 Clonie Award.

That's for the individual to decide. It's not up to you or I when a player decides to hang it up. Doesn't matter if we see the logic in it or understand the reasoning. Why not quit earlier in the season if you're worried about getting injured? So why should fans be interested in supporting the team at a bowl. Fans opting out is the next step in the process. And I do think it makes a difference that it's a bowl game; they are glorified exhibition games. That doesn't mean they can't be fun or meaningful; I was disappointed last night and really enjoyed the fiesta bowl win last year. But they aren't regular season games or the playoffs. So a player missing a bowl game for whatever reason is different than them choosing to not finish out the regular season
You might as well get used to it, it isn't going to change. And if I had millions on the line why risk playing in the freaking cheeez it bowl and blowing out a knee.
Who do you think paid for his years. Yes, PAID.That's for the individual to decide. It's not up to you or I when a player decides to hang it up. Doesn't matter if we see the logic in it or understand the reasoning.
Why risk playing at all? When's the "right" time to sit out...once your team is eliminated from the conference play-off game? Breece and countless others have made similar decisions. Seems selfish and goes against the "go to war with my brothers" sentiment. College football has changed dramatically because of the money. And the changes will eventually destroy the game as we've known (and enjoyed) it.

That's fine and I hope they have an easier pathway to the NFL. My main issue is that sitting out the bowl game is a relatively ineffective way to achieve the goals that they have IMO.What changed? I don't need to feel warm and fuzzy because we won, I cheer for the Cyclones all day every day. It is sad that you feel warm and fuzzy after a loss, I guess the fanbase hasn't changed much with our recent improvements.
Was sitting with the same group of thinkers last night. I’m sorry but no one that is saying that Hall should have played would if they were In his shoes.
Here is my example to make it easier: you are offered what would end up being millions of dollars at a new job doing data entry or anything with your hands so you need to begin preparing for it. The only thing is if you continue at your current job where you aren’t getting paid anything but minimum wage there are random people coming up with a club taking swings at your hands. If you get hit once you lose out on that new job. No one would show up to that minimum wage job and they would begin preparing for the new one. Period end of discussion
