These are the 2017 population estimates. Most are 30-50 markets, except for Des Moines and Dayton. Those two cities must have something else working for them to get on the list.
Dayton's metropolitan area is like 800k people and it's an hour from cincy and columbus. also i think indianapolis is like 1.5 hours. So it's pretty drivable for a lot of people.

You should do size of metro area, not of only the city.

Valley Stadium also seats 15,000 and has field turf. But yes, there is that February in Iowa thing. They'd have to shift the season a month or so later.

Always love this argument. Here are the MSAs. It really did help out....Dayton, OH. Des Moines is the smallest. Iowans seem to think DSM is some sort of metropolis. The MSA relative to the USA is 25/32/41/45/59/60/73/88. They seem to be larger in states with NFL options, and the smaller MSA options have no NFL equivalent in the state

Albuquerque- 913,113
Columbus- 2,078,725
Dayton- 803,416
Des Moines- 645,911
Louisville- 1,293,953
Oklahoma City- 1,383,737
Omaha- 933,316
Portland-- 2,453,168

Some of these get excluded because i assume they dont have domes.

It basically looks like they went for cities that don't already have a pro football presence

I've lived in Iowa for almost 35 years now, I've never once heard that claim. When people talk about DSM it basically revolves around being a nice area, which it is.

This site likes to throw around the DSM market like its a huge draw(we were really pushing it back in the realignment era). DSM is nice, but the eyeballs aren't there. I live in Tulsa now and we are nearly twice as big, and no one talks about it like Iowans speak of Des Moines. Its all relative I know. I am not here to start an argument, but the data is there for all to see.

I think a lot of these areas are tough sells. The populations are either in areas with strong collegiate football presence, or in towns not know for the big American sports(Portland and ABQ for starters). I think some of these areas have potential but there are usually reasons that the NFL is not in certain areas.

You're just quoting city size. All of those cities belong to metro areas over 800k people - except Des Moines, which is only around 600k.

Not sure on how much is going on in the uni dome this time of year but it would be perfect in my opinion. Just need some investors to make it happen. Also Iowans are to the point of winter we are really looking for something exciting to do

There's zero chance the AAF puts a team in Waterloo/CF.

I think it could work, would anyone be interested to actually go to these games, even of it's within Drake's stadium? Would the populace of Des Moines (or Iowa in general) be supportive of this, more so than the Barnstormers?

Valley Stadium also seats 15,000 and has field turf. But yes, there is that February in Iowa thing. They'd have to shift the season a month or so later.

But is on school grounds, so no beer sales. So no, not an option.

The UNI Dome would actually be a perfect venue for this. Maybe when Iowa was mentioned, people just assumed Des Moines. I can't imagine how you could play in our climate February through April without a dome. It'd be a disaster.

Des Moines metro biggest strike going against it to land a team is population and available corporate sponsorships. Those drive theses decisions.

So no, there is zero chance they'd look at an even smaller Iowa metro.

This makes no sense to me. February outdoor football in Iowa is an insane idea.
