Speaking of Hardee’s, they used to actually charbroil their burgers. Maybe they still do, but it’s different now. The flavor is nowhere close to how they were when they were in the little styrofoam burger containers.

Portillo's (up here in Chicagoland) burgers remind me of that flavor. Their burgers are pretty good.
I miss Hardees "All Star menu" the All Star and the Super Star burgers were really great burgers. I think Carls Jr kept that menu for a while longer, maybe they still have it.

That being said Hardees are so hard to find anymore, that its been a long time since I have been to one.

OG Pizza Huts were the best- they really went down hill after they switched to Frozen. Years ago the Pizza Hut manager back home went out and started his own pizza place with the original dough recipes. It was probably the best pizza i've had in years, until he retired and couldn't find anyone to keep the business going. :(
Pizza Hut white sauce for dipping cheese sticks.

+1 for DaVinci's and Gumby's Pokey Stix. Both were delicious. Same with the Pizzeria chips too mentioned

How about Chi Chi's Mexican restaurants? Probably have to be at least in your 40's to remember them. Not sure when the one in West Des Moines closed but was probably sometime in the 90's but remember that being one my favorite places to eat when we made a trip to Des Moines.

Wasn't there a place once in North Grand Mall in Ames called Cactus Bob's maybe that was a decent Mexican restaurant? I remember something similar to that name I think in the late 90's.

Chinese Homestyle Cooking had the best Chinese food in Ames. Wish I had made 1 last trip there before they went out of business.
Loved CHC. The owners kids were always doing homework and helping run the register.

I dont remember ever seeing those, but I would like to try em.
My folks worked at GM and used to bring them home all the time. I think they were slightly thicker than regular roll ups but tasted legitimately like pudding.

Happy Joe’s. They may still exist somewhere but not around me. Their taco pizza was awesome.

Also Gumby’s pizza for the Pokey Sticks. Again, may still exist somewhere.

Any Trader Joe's fans on here? I heard this will be going away soon (sadly they take a lot of their products off their shelves never to return again) but if you get a chance to get this...get as many bags as you can. It's crack.

Orange Crush orange soda, I was good for about 1 a yr but it really hit the spot when you wanted one.
Perfect descriptor for the joy/wonderful taste and duration of how often you'd have one.

Hy Vee Cream Soda in the blue/white can.

I remember as a kid going to Hy-Vee and they had their soda for $1 and I could pick out like eight cans. That was the first time I had cream soda and the can was white and blue and it made it taste crisp and cool LOL. Later I had cream soda for the first time from a&w and The brown tint of the can and the soda. It just not as refreshing. The Hy-Vee liquid was clear so as a kid it just really hit the spot
