Today at work the topic over break was whether or not it is possible to drink 48 beers in 24 hours. I say anyone who can is an alcoholic. I used my weight on wikipedia's bac chart and came up with my ending bac would be .83% which is beyond legally dead. Anyone think that it is actually possible?

Andre the Giant did that and more. I think Wade Boggs did too.

Wikipedia on Boggs:

Boggs is claimed to have once drank 60-70 beers during a cross country flight, which originally received national attention via a sign in the background of an episode of ESPN's College Gameday before a Pittsburgh vs Virginia Tech football game. The rumor has become somewhat of a legend amongst college-aged males. Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon questioned Boggs on an episode of ESPN's Pardon the Interruption. Boggs was quite cavalier leaving a slightly-ambiguous air to the whole situation. Although denying the actual number, Boggs understood what could have precipitated the rumor, "it was nothing to be proud of" he said and went on, "let's just say it was a few Miller Lites." The latter statement has resulted in the endearment of Miller Lites as "Boggs" or "Boggs Lite" to the aforementioned young crowd.

It's easily possible for alcoholics. I've drank a case of busch light from 12 noon to 2 am. Then slept all day woke up saturday afternoon and got drunk not knowing how much because it was mostly shots.

I've known guys to try Around The World In A Day (open to close--thirteen hours, I think) at a certain Campustown bar, but that's nowhere near 48 beers--and they often didn't succeed, either.

I've done the 24 in 24 numerous times, and believe me there is no room left for another 24 the next day. The best I have ever put together is probably around 27/28 in 24 and 42/48.

Most people probably wouldn't believe you but I have seen that done multiple times by people.

I know normal college drunks can have 30 beers in a day, so I'd assume a large alcoholic might be able to do it. Not positive, but I think they have higher levels of enzymes (such as alcohol dehydrogenase) that allow them to consume more and maintain a lower BAC.

i can easily see 24 in 12 hours (even 7 or 8 hours for that matter), as I have done that. personally, I would not be able to continue, or wake up early enough to get the other 24 done in the remaining 12 hours. I can possibly see it happen though. if someone is big and a hardcore drinker, it can probably be done.
