Not starting the wait till next year talk, but I think people are coming to a reality that this is a young team and right now there is no leadership. It will take a while for it all to jell together.

AND there is almost a thread about every player not named Brakins or Clark about how they are bad and shouldn't see the floor.

I'm annoyed.

Yeah, and we only lost by 10 at home to Tubby Smith. It is early and it could be worse. Ankle and knee injuries sometimes take a while to heal. Our best players all are enduring/recuperating injuries of some type. This just shows us how bad we needed Mike to survive or Lucca to be playing or Wes to be the No 2 guard. Amazing. Biggest concern is Big 12 has powerful, no nonsense guards and we will have to improve in 45 days or we will be in deep kimshee.

Sagarin has us rated at #172. Good news is Colorado is rated lower at #183.

I nearly crapped my pants when Brakins went down. It looked like a serious injury. Thankfully he came back.

I was thinking "great, now we won't see our true starting lineup until January" when he went down. Personally I don't see what the big deal is about losing to a Minnesota team who will most likely finish in the top 5 of the Big 10 this year. I have no doubt that if the students were at the game it would have at least come down to the final minute.

Cyclone fans should be pissed at the play we got last night. I normally understand when the shots aren't falling but getting out hustled on the boards like that and dribbling into traps is not exceptable. Sorry.

Rebounding is all about effort. Are these players ready to play? Jiri had 11 bounds. What did the others have? In past years, our guiartds have been great rebounders. We suddenly miss that. Mike was good for 5 a game. Hey guards, you need to rebound also.

Very good point Bryceman. As much as people liked to tear Stinson, Blalock, and Taylor apart, all of them were quite athletic and rebounded very well for guards. The only guard we have right now that rebounds with any kind of intensity is Peterson, sometimes. I have a feeling that situation would improve, just like everything else, if Lucca and Wes were playing the 2. Time is what this team needs, maybe not next year, but still it needs time.

I saw our opening game in the Cyclone Challenge. My thoughts were and still are that this team has a lot of holes to fill. Our guard play is at best poor. I was very unimpressed with Haluska. Petersen does okay but is not a position where we gain an advantage versus the other team and sometimes is a negative. Haluska's position is a BIG advantage for the other team. Brackins seems to be holding his own. Clark and Jiri holding their own for the most part. But we have NO positions where we gain a distinct advantage over the other team. Garrett has potential. Boozer also. We really miss Wes Johnson. I had a feeling we would struggle.

We need to be patient. We should not plan on making NCAA's or NIT for that matter. Big XII is pretty tough.

Haluska is still getting his confidence going as far as the offense, but he is very good defender on the other side. Let's not throw him under the bus. He also had I think 4 assists so just because his 3 pters aren't dropping don't mean he isn't an asset elsewhere.

Anyone with half a brain should wait until Wesley gets back to pass judgement on this team.

He only played 21 minutes and had how many more go through his hands? He could have had close to 20 boards had he been able to give us 30-35 minutes without foul problems.

The rebounding was frustration. Some of it was hustle, other times Minnesota just got a lot of long rebounds we couldn't get to as well. It was also a little frustrating to watch them get away with a lot of contact a few plays. There was 1 time I swear they had about 3 fouls and 2 travels all on the same possesion when they kept getting offensive boards. I know Mac was screaming at Steve Wilmer after that sequence.

Speaking of Steve, wonder what the over under in a game is for pulling up his pants. Love that guy but I get a kick out of him going to the scorer's table to call a foul and the last thing he'll do is tug on his waistline after he calls the foul. lol

Agreed. I have expectations for this year and last night they just simply were not met. They had nothing do to with missing Wes as I understand the effect that has on this team and even the loss doesn't bother me. But that doesn't explain or OK the lack of hustle, offensive sets, rebounding, or coaching blunders. People talk about youth, while it could be a factor I believe 2 of the 3 players that positively impacted the game (Clark, Brackins, and Garrett) are freshmen so I don't see youth as the main problem.

I fully expect this team to be good when the sense of urgency kicks in and Wes (and hopefully Lucca) return to the starting line-up.

In Greg's post game comments his comment on Wes and Lucca sounded like he expects to get Lucca back this year... .that would be great news.

Go Clones.
