Know a guy that was on that team. They had a lot of talent and they were not a team you wanted to play early in the year, same thing with the 81’ team that climbed to 11th in the rankings. But they didn’t have much for strength and conditioning. He joked by mid October they were done. Injuries would mount and they would wear out.

A random memory from many years ago, comment from a former player suggested the type of conditioning was inadequate, mostly focused on linemen (good upper-body conditioning, but lacking in leg strength).

Every other team that has ever been a member of the Big XII has had double digit win seasons multiple times, and most of those achieved it 50 years ago or more. It sucks our best team got robbed because of covid, but they lost to a team they never should have to start the season and the next year **** the bed with basically the same team returning. It's pretty sad ISU hasn't gotten it done yet.

We just didn't have the depth then. 1st stringers could battle with almost any team for a half or so but couldn't hang in 4th qtr

Most had this accomplished since the early 90s at the latest. UCF being an outlier due to not having an FBS program until 96.

Fun fact, the first 14 win team in modern CFB history was BYU. They somehow played 15 games in 1996.

My freshman year. Oranges thrown on the field as we were all certain we were going to the Orange Bowl. Crutchfield was running over people early in the year

My frosh year too. Bodas were in vogue at games. I believe Donnie Duncan was coach, John Quinn QB. IIRC,we beat Iowa in 80, 81 and 82.

I still get mad about the year we outride won the big 12, but lost to OU in the title game.

This year...one game at a time.....BUT....if we get to the end doing well ...give me a loss to KSU or Utah regular season if we win the title game.
