Remember when everyone thought Iowa’s portal usage was going to destroy their program? Yea, that was funny.

I like it. It’s important for us to continue to get creative in adding talent, and Juco can be a good resource for that. Talent definitely still slips through the cracks, look at the Wartburg 197lber for example.

I think this kid is a nice addition (definitely a take) so this is no way about him, but JUCO talent is overall just not a great source of talent at the major D1 level. It was good 20+ years ago but there’s not nearly as much out there today.

They made it a rule in December Juco doesn't count anymore against eligibility. So he would've 4

I don’t think it is a rule yet. It’s considered temporary for now, I believe.

They way I understand it Brands went to VT and he wanted better freestyle workout partners

Basically. Once Brands left there was nothing keeping him it Iowa. VT wasn’t the VT of today back then. They were bad. So Mocco wasn’t going to follow him there.

Even better, remember when multiple posters here claimed Iowa was out of money? Since then, they have landed 3 top portal targets and Michael Mocco. With the Raney boys possibly on deck.

To play devils advocate, the three portal guys are a far cry from the tier of guys they got last year and yeah, you should probably land a legacy guy in Mocco.

They were some of the top guys in the portal, each will be ranked top 8 to start the year. And they didn’t come for free. Neither did Mocco.

I don’t see finalist potential in these 3. All 3 transfers had finalist potential last year. Not that I thought Teemer would be a finalist this year, but he proved he could.

I could see all 3 of these guys not AA. Actually, did any of them AA this year?

I could definitely see them go 0/3 in AA’s, but I would guess that 1 or 2 of them do.

Clearly Bailey out of the 3 is most capable. Pretty rare to go from 4th as a true freshman to R16 the following year.

That’s a huge get for them.
Kueter has 3 years left.. we already know he will miss this years football season.. by 2026 he won't have played football since 2023.. and if Kueter decides to continue wrestling.. his senior year is 2027-28.. and if Mocco can't beat him.. he RS's in 2026-7... RS Freshman 2027-28.. and then only has 3 years to wrestle after Kueter leaves.. that could be interesting

Mocco will redshirt then probably do an Olympic RS in 2028. He could always gray shirt his first year too, like Paniro and Schon did.
