Maybe Bailey and Romney are options? Completely spitballing but they're two guys with a couple years left possibly looking for better training partners.

Second year of college.

We both know his folkstyle training is still on the young side.
Third with his gray shirt at Iowa.

He’s won Super 32 and Beast of the East in high school and now is almost done with 3 years training in a college room. You act like he’s Bastida or something. The guy knows folkstyle.

I like Chittum, and don’t want to appear to be bashing him. He is a very good wrestler and could possibly AA in his future. This is only in comparison into him and AJ and who will have a bigger impact on the team.

I’d much rather take my chances (and resources) on a year of a guy like Zach Elam than I would getting anywhere close to AJ.

I think this is just plain wrong.

We have a glaring weakness at 197 next year. That is a hole we need to fill. There is lots of talk about getting a guy like Novak to fill that hole. Novak would be a step up from what we have but he’s maybe 2-4 points at NCAA. With AJ your plugging in a bare minimum of 10. More likely 15+.

CC has proven to be not good. Can he turn it around and get better? possibly. But he looks a lot like Chittum to me. Great talent, capable of beating some good guys. His career record in 2 years of college is 5-6 with some absolute clunker losses. Not the kind of results you would expect from a recruit ranked in the top 5 of his class. There is absolutely zero evidence that he is someone you can “build around”.

Also, what evidence do we have to say AJ is bad for the locker room? Is there turmoil as CSUB? Was there at OSU? If there was how much was due to Anthony?

I agree with @stuclone. Definitely has to be conditioned on good behavior and attitude, but from what I’ve seen this year he’s turned things around a bit.
You are a wrestling poster that I absolutely respect but man, making that bold of a call on Carroll with like 12 career matches seems knee jerk. He clearly wasn’t in a good place mentally and physically this year. We saw some incredible athleticism from him even in a few matches this year. He is a guy who has a ceiling that a transfer like Novak (who I really like btw) doesn’t have. I hope he comes back if he feels ready to endure the grind and focus on being an elite college wrestler.

I love this take. Carroll beat stemmet and current big 12 champ voelker while clearly going through some things. That man has incredible potential and from all accounts is a great person and teammate.

Meza/Grice/ Osmany wrestleoff if castillo is good enough to take 125 right away.
I don't think you can leave it to this based on what we as fans have seen so far. Maybe internally they have developed more and the staff feels good (which I would trust) but going off of their public showing so far you try to grab a transfer if frost is bumping up.

Man...it's been almost 40 years since we've won a natty. Next year's roster with either AJ or both him and Angelo immediately puts us in contention to legitimately challenge PSU....you can't say with a straight face that's not tempting

Angelo isn't leaving Iowa, but in this fun hypothetical I completely agree. It's the same thing Iowa did knowing they wanted to get Angelo, take a gamble on the other two so you can make sure you get the top prize.

Not exactly sure.
“Looks like Chittum to me”

He’s been here for not even 2 years and is true sophomore for folk. Has knocked off several top 10-15 guys and hasn’t even had the chance to compete in his 2nd NCAAs yet. Seems very shortsighted.

I’m a hard pass on AJ. Don’t think our AD would dap him up after the splits/double birds after winning a match.
How does AJ even have eligibility left?

agreed. hard to say what kind of jump osmany is capable of. meza showed a ton of grit this year in my opinion. grice is a wildcard clearly talented but for one reason or another ends up on the outside looking in

I had a long typed out examples of how bad this guy is, but I don't want to put that on blast. Let me say this, I know for a FACT, this guy has done some horrible stuff to girls. FACT. All at OSU. He is not a guy looking for fights like Anthony, he is a guy that likes girls, all ages. IF they don't like him, doesn't matter.

Making bold calls is kind of my m.o. Many are definitely wrong. Remember though, that it’s not just this year’s results, but also his freshman year at OSU.

I’m all for bringing him back if he is able and willing, FWIW. Definitely the ceiling is high. But we’ve had 2 years of results now, and flashes of pretty good and also flashes of pretty bad. I do hold him to high expectations as a top P4P recruit. Those guys should be point scorers right away. Not development projects.

Adding AJ still does not put us close to PSU.

Somehow getting Angelo (not happening) would put us closer but still a wide gap, and I think we will be pretty damn good.

The more I think about it, AJ to ISU makes a lot of sense to me. I’m down for it. He’s had a full year now staying out of trouble, I think he has earned a shot at a big program.

If it means we lose Chittum, I think that is a trade worth making.
Just because he hasn't been arrested doesn't mean he has it in his nature to be humble. didn't someone just share a video of him beating his dog? Maybe it was playful, but I wouldn't give him the benefits of any doubts.
