Sorry, gang - long day yesterday capped by a visitation for an uncle-in-law made for an early bedtime and a rough night. We just got up about a half hour ago.

I have been waiting to put up this heading for a while...

"Looks like the WAC has been WAC'd out of the competition!"

This morning's imperialism map. I think UConn might hold North Central Iowa for a good long time. I just don't see Okie State or Florida beating the team that toyed with our Cyclones.

7-0 UNLV with more territory than anyone.

You know, I really feel the pain of these teams after our last season before TJ. It was SOOOO hard to watch. They just couldn't get anywhere on the court. :(

Agree.

It's possible to feel connectivity especially with the P5 teams on the list -- Louisville & Cal - most similar to ISU's skid that season (although we were spared going winless right off the bat).

Not that I feel less empathy for the others, but SWAC teams such as Jackson State, starting 0-6 is somewhat "normal" -- small leagues like that tend to be at the mercy of "buy" games in non-conference with almost no home games, so it's nothing unusual to be winless or start 2-9 or something. SWAC/MEAC types might have multiple teams like that and one of them will get auto-bid and maybe finish like 13-3 in its conference.

True on the mid-majors. Cal is rarely relevant on the national scene, but Louisville...that's the big WOW for me.

Yeah, I wouldn't have expected this start for UL. Expectation wasn't high for this season ... most preseason projections I saw was in lower third to lower fifth of ACC. But even that probably assumed most of the damage would come in conference.

Some context --> 3 of the most recent losses were against high-level opponents - Arkansas, TT, Maryland (all blowouts, though). Home losses to Bellarmine, App St and Wright St are BAD, but each was by 1 point. So I guess Louisville might suck anyway, but be 3-4 instead of 0-7.
